Position Description:

In this role you will be reporting to a foreign manager based in Guangzhou. As a Sourcing Engineer for Sevco, you will be responsible for overseeing activities throughout the procurement project lifecycle from identifying and visiting potential suppliers across Guangdong province and Mainland China, obtaining product/component quotations and samples, developing prototypes, incorporating client feedback into product adaptations, negotiating terms with suppliers, managing mass production, undertaking quality inspections, organising shipments together with the logistics team and following up on client satisfaction.

This role will suit someone with extensive China sourcing and product development experience who is familiar with foreign client product quality requirements and highly skilled at identifying and managing key procurement risks as well as identifying and exploiting opportunities. The candidate should have sound experience at searching for and identifying suitable suppliers across China.

At Sevco we deal with many types of products, including both components and finished products, so for this role we are looking for someone who has a reasonable understanding of all common manufacturing and assembly processes. Candidates with knowledge of mechanical and material related topics will be highly preferenced during the selection process. The successful candidate will be confident in engaging Chinese suppliers in discussions around these types of products and their manufacturing processes and negotiating favourable commercial agreements for Sevco.

We are looking for someone with high level English ability, as the ability to communicate clearly and efficiently with the company's senior management staff in English is essential to your success. While the working language will be Chinese with suppliers and most office staff, conversations and emails with Sevco management as well as company meetings are conducted in English. The successful applicant must have the ability to communicate clearly in English on a range of technical and business-related subject matters.

Responsibilities:

• Source suitable suppliers for a range of products (predominantly metal and plastic)
• Negotiate with suppliers for favourable prices and delivery timeframes
• Visit supplier factories to assess suitability for partnership, conduct product quality inspections, negotiations and general maintaining of business relationships
• Conduct quality inspections of products for conformance to client requirements
• Possible business trips overseas to meet with foreign clients
• Identify quality/production issues and work with suppliers to find solutions

Candidate Requirements:

• Higher education required (minimum technical college)
• In related fields of Engineering or Business
• Applicants must have strong awareness of manufacturing and assembly processes, with experience in foreign trade and western manufacturing standards highly preferred
• Fluent in Mandarin
• Cantonese language ability desirable but not required
• High level English language level – able to communicate confidently and clearly on technical and business topics
• Strong work ethic and ability to self-motivate
• Ability to think critically and independently whilst also following manager's directions

Remuneration and Benefits:

• After-tax salary of between 6-10k RMB per month (salary offered will depend on the applicant's skills, experience and suitability for the role)
• All social insurance to be paid in accordance with the laws of the People's Republic of China
• All Chinese National Public Holidays will be provided to the employee with full pay.
