职位描述

The Department of Home Affairs (HA) section of the Australian Consulate-General Guangzhou has non-ongoing vacancies to fill the following several positions.


Visa Processing Officer – Temporary Entry Unit (TEU)

Visa Processing Officer – Permanent Entry Unit (PEU)

Integrity Assistant

Applications are invited from Chinese Nationals, Australian Nationals and holders of diplomatic visas. If the successful applicants are Chinese Nationals, they are required to register with the Service Office of Foreign Establishments, Guangdong Province (if not already) prior to commencing employment.


Salary for the positions will commence at RMB 7,299 (LE3) per month. We also offer competitive conditions including 20-day annual leave entitlement in pro rata, 14-day public holidays, commericial medical insurance plan and flexible working policy.


Please note the positions are initially for a period of 6 months or 12 months depending on operational requirement. The successful applicants may be offered a further contract and a subsequent permanent contract.

About the positions

Visa Processing Officer – Temporary Entry Unit (TEU)


The position is responsible for assessing straightforward to moderately complex visa applications for temporary entry to Australia.


The key responsibilities include but are not limited to:


· Apply an understanding of relevant legislation, policies and procedures to assess and decide temporary entry visa applications, within service standards in a pressured environment, escalating sensitive and more complex cases as necessary

· Prepare client correspondence for temporary entry visa applicants

· Undertake thorough investigations to assess the bona fides of an application including interviews with clients; verification checks on documents; initiation of health checks

· Manage client queries by phone, email and in person

· Conduct interpretation and document translation as required

· Provide mentoring and on-the-job training to other staff as required

· Undertake general administrative support for the Temporary Entry Unit as required.



Visa Processing Officer – Permanent Entry Unit (PEU)


The position is responsible for assessing straightforward to moderately complex applications for permanent entry to Australia. This position also works closely with Senior Migration Officers to assess Citizenship by Descent applications lodged on behalf of children born overseas to Australian citizens in accordance with the Australian Citizenship Act 2007.


The key responsibilities include but are not limited to:


· assess Child and Adoption permanent visa applications, New Zealand Citizen Family Relationship visa applications, and conduct the initial assessments of low risk Partner Migration applications within service standards

· register and assess Citizenship by Descent applications, making recommendations to Australian-based officers for decision, escalating sensitive cases at an early stage as appropriate

· assist in client liaison on Citizenship By Descent matters including the preparation of routine correspondence; coordination of DNA testing; assistance with client interviews and the translation or interpretation of documents

· respond to routine client enquiries made by phone, email and at the counter, providing information and escalate more sensitive and complex matters as required

· decide temporary entry visa applications, as required but particularly during peak processing periods

· conduct interpretation and document translation as required

· provide mentoring and on-the-job training to other staff as required



Integrity Assistant

Under direction, the Integrity Assistant undertakes integrity checks for temporary and permanent visa applications processed in the Guangzhou office.


The key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:


· Undertake data entry (non-compliance and fraud data) and reporting in Departmental systems

· Write reports and case notes in relation to the processing of visa applications.

· Verify documentation with relevant authorities as required.

· Liaise with authorities / stakeholders as required.

· Provide translation and interpreting services

· Escalation of cases of integrity concern to A based managers

· Develop integrity reports as required

· Support the PMO and SMO with ad hoc requests

· Process referrals from visa officers onshore, ensuring cases are finalised within due dates and with accuracy (as required).

· Decide visa applications (as required).



Generic Selection Criteria

Ability to make assessments and decisions based on legal requirements incorporating initiative and sound judgement with the capacity to develop a sound understanding of Home Affairs legislation and policy and to apply both in relation to applications for entry to Australia

Ability to work independently and under direction. Maintain high work standards, high degree of integrity and meet deadlines

Sound communication and interpersonal skills and capacity to respond professionally and sensitively to clients while maintaining a high level of client service

Proficiency with PC based software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel and relevant databases

Ability to maintain productive working relationships with colleagues from a diverse range of backgrounds





Good written and oral English language skills and fluency in Mandarin are required. Reliable ability to act as an interpreter and translator between these languages. Fluency in Cantonese is highly desirable.
