GENERAL SUMMARY

This position is responsible for providing manufacturing technology direction and support to CSA China and JV plants that manufacture FBD and FTS products. This position will maintain current/future capacity charts of key major capital equipment/process and plant floor space, facilitate and maintain the 1-5 year manufacturing strategies. This position works closely with CSA Sales, PM, Production, Quality, R&D, Finance, Purchasing, and Cost Estimating Departments in support of the APQP process and CSA strategies. He/She will also provide support to Cost Estimating team on process flow definition, labor, capital, & tooling estimates. This position will facilitate the utilization of processes within China Fluid, including the development and maintenance of standards used for equipment specification and procurement, cost estimating, and the sharing of technology/best practices within China Fluid.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Works under the direction of ME Manager, China Fluid, with assignments and expectations tied closely with divisional/global objectives to predict capacity constraints well in advanced to properly plan and execute corrective measures. Ability to put forth options to address capacity constraints regarding floor space and/or capital equipment for future growth in China Fluid BU. These options will have to address the financial spending, location options (green site/buy existing/and or lease buildings), labor cost, overhead cost, etc. Leads the research and implementation of new or improved equipment/tooling/processes to satisfy changing production requirements. Works with outside machinery suppliers, machine shops, plant engineering, and maintenance in these efforts. Assists in the validation of new processes as necessary. May be required to obtain/negotiate approval or revisions to customer product specifications. Initiates projects and tasks through creative insight, leveraging manufacturing and product knowledge. Confirms feasibility/capability of proposed product/process improvements using statistical methods. Assists in the transfer of product and process between plants within China Fluid BU. Keeps current on developments related to manufacturing and product technology through meetings within Cooper Standard and outside suppliers, customers, trade publications, shows and conferences, etc. Reports status and progress of projects monthly through a Project Status Report. May on occasion be required to perform duties other than those specified above. 10. Hand over the process proposals to plant manufacturing engineers once the quoted businesses are awarded. And provide necessary support during the transition. 11. Prepare the capital equipments and facility equipments’ budget following plant’s growth strategy. 12. Act as the responsible plant process engineer when necessary in a program launch team. 13. For assigned technologies, will act as communicative link with CSA technical and manufacturing sites, including other global regions, for the purpose of process development, Best Practice exchange, standardization, etc. International travel is periodically necessary.

REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Four-year technical degree with 4 or more years of experience in automotive component manufacturing and assembly, or equivalent experience in relative Technical/Engineering positions. Finance degree or working experience would be beneficial.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

This position requires a person who is organized and has demonstrated a proactive task approach to work. The position requires a high level of problem solving and data driven analysis such as Kepner Tregoe and/or DOE. Interpersonal skills are necessary to coordinate and lead projects and meetings effectively. Computer competency required, including spreadsheet, word-processing software, Powerpoint presentation skills. Knowledge of Lean concepts and the ability to use these skills. Finance knowledge. Fluent Oral English is a Must. Proved program management experience will be a plus.

Makes decisions concerning appropriate equipment / tooling requirement for processes to maintain an acceptable level of product quality. Determines product flow, work cell layout and coordinates continuous improvement activities. Must be able to gain consensus on strategies, and implement Best Business Practice standards across the division and globally.
