JOB SUMMARY

The Regional Tooling Program Manager (RTPM) will successfully manage the engineering, technical and budgetary aspects of tool development projects, from inception to end of life. The RTPM will develop forecast and budgets.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

? Develop and manage a staff of engineers capable of meeting the tool creation demand for said region. This person will liaise with customers, vendors and all internal functional groups associated with tool development projects. 

? Further, the RTPM will also be required execute the role of Tooling Project Engineer by using established processes and procedures, and is responsible for design input and approval, fabrication and qualification of plastic injection molds and sheet metal dies by outside vendors. 

? Familiarity with all aspects of a tooling shop and a thorough understanding of the operation of all the machine tools and other tools used in the process of fabricating molds and dies is also necessary. The RTPM should have a thorough understanding of the tool making process, from start to finish, and have experience managing this process.

? Manage quoting, new project entry and maintenance in Jabil Projects, monthly time tracking and monthly program forecasting.

? Monitor team member support and identify key factors that can be improved.

? Identify individual and team strengths and development needs on an ongoing basis.

? Provide ongoing feedback to designated managers, supervisors, peers and team members on team member’s contribution to the team. Express pride in staff and encourage them to feel good about their accomplishments. Mentor where needed.

? Drive individuals and the team to continuously improve in key operational metrics and the achievement of the organizational goals.

? Provide communication forum for the exchange of ideas and information with the team.

? Ask questions; encourage input from team members.

? Know and understand the business strategic direction.

? Develop and communicate an understanding of the business strategy as it pertains to the team.

? Provide regular updates to appropriate managers.

? Identify creative ways to reduce cost by streamlining processes and systems (i.e. modification of responsibilities or consolidation of tasks, elimination of non-value added processes, or complete re-engineering of processes and systems).

? Utilize tools to monitor project cost and cost trends, striving continuously to improve value.

? Provide feedback to peers and appropriate managers.

? Work independently to develop quotations and schedules for development programs of tools. 

? Work concurrently with Jabil CAD Services, Business Unit Management, Manufacturing, Test, Purchasing, and Quality departments throughout the design phase of a program.   Strive to provide a design that not only meets the customer’s criteria, Jabil’s manufacturability requirements, but is also of high quality, and cost effective.

? Be familiar with all aspects of molded plastic and sheet metal parts and be knowledgeable in troubleshooting mold issues and die issues.

? Define tooling strategy according to part geometry and product life

? Support Jabil Design and Business Unit during in cost estimate of tools and parts during initial bidding or architecture phase

? Estimate tooling cost & part cost (includes secondary process) for sheet metal and injection molded parts

? Control and monitor of tools proper maintenance records and tool life management procedures

? Ensuring that all tools are kept and used at satisfactory condition 

? Management of supplier both virtual and vertical for tool builds, assurance of build in accordance with Jabil standard.

? Selection of suppliers and maintenance of tooling suppliers

? Support tooling transfer and EOL management

? Assess the suitability of a particular mold or die shop to the needs of a particular job.

? Stay abreast of the latest technology and techniques to provide input and approval of designs that are competitive and cost effective.

? Exercise good judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.  

? May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

MANAGEMENT & SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

? Typically reports to Management.  Direct supervisor job title(s) typically include: Reports to Global Tooling Manager

? Job is NOT directly responsible for managing other employees (e.g., hiring/termination and/or pay decisions, performance 

management).   

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

? Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

? Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. 

? Ability to operate a personal computer including using a Windows based operating system and related software. 

? Advanced PC skills, including training and knowledge of Jabil’s software packages. 

? Ability to write simple correspondence.  Read and understand visual aid. 

? Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.  

? Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

? Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  

? Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  

? Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.

? Ability to operate 3D CAD software & engineering costing tools

? Knowledge of manufacturing machine setup and process timing

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

? Accredited Four year Tool and Die apprenticeship program; 

? Plus a minimum of 5 years experience on the bench and have achieved the status of Class A journeyman. 

? Demonstrated experience in managing people and budgets.  

? Possess project management skills including scheduling and resource allocation forecasting.

? Or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS

? Regular business hours.  Some additional hours may be required.

? Travel requirements:  Domestic and/or Global, up to 25%

? Climate controlled office environment during normal business hours.
