Position Reports to: China General Manager and Chief Operating Officer
Primary Purpose, Scope or Focus of Position:
To ensure Bennett and Company garments are manufactured to meet internal goals and objectives as well as satisfying customer requirements. Manage technical garment development process, including quality assurance and bulk production quality control from 1st fit sample through bulk production, meeting company standards and customer base requirements.
1. Responsible for pre-production approval process from first fit sample through bulk production outcome and customer satisfaction.
2. Be able to attend and participate in customer fittings, make suggestions and problem solve for desired customer garment intent at same time as maximizing company internal efficiency and costs as needed. Be able to run internal fittings and sample reviews, document and relay and translate fit comments to team for revisions needed in a timely manner.
3. Be able to review garments, patterns, grading, construction, operational breakdowns and markers for accuracy, proper fit, cost effective construction, and best utilization.
4. Effectively manage, problem solve, and communicate technical issues or quality problems to international team for quick resolution, working with team to make sure best business decision can be made with acceptable resolution with customer.
5. Manage central file of all garment fit specifications, approval reports, inspection reports, shipment sample evaluations, quality, and sizing requirements for individual customers.
6. Manage Quality Assurance in alternative countries including in-line through final inspections.
7. Maintain Bennett tracking tools to report in process (RT tracking)WIPS.
8. Manage and train staff for highest expertise level based on company standards and customer requirements.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
1. Managing and supervising the technical, Q.A. and Q.C. staff in Asia, and the technical aspects of production of garments in all locations utilized by the Company. Manage all preproduction and post production activities and staff.
2. Actively respond to and resolve particular technical production problems and issues working with team for best business decisions.
3. Implement procedures to improve the timeliness of garment delivery and less costly production techniques when needed, while maintaining high quality standards and meeting customer requirements.
4. May travel to factories in various countries to:
a. respond to specific technical production problems.
b. negotiating new opportunities as needed.
c. review machinery in factories to achieve most efficient output and highest utilization of material and componentry.
d. review efficiency of factory production control of sewing procedures.
e. make observations whether machinery, cutting, sewing, pressing, packing and general cleanliness are up to Bennett and customer base standards to achieve optimum quality requirements.
5. Quality Standards and Procedures:
a. Understand and establish Bennett garment quality standards for each customer.
b. Implement systems to meet each customer's standard requirements.
c. Communicate and negotiate with customers on quality standards and issues as needed to Bennett's benefit.
d. Defend the interests of Bennett on quality concerns regarding any quality claim.
e. Manage all aspects of customer audits and maintain compliance to standards set forth by customers.
f. Manage and ensure Bennett is conforming to performance and Regulatory standards for raw materials and garment test requirements.
6. Technical Standards and Procedures:
a. Understand and establish Bennett technical standards and procedures for each customer.
b. Communicate and negotiate with customers on technical issues for resolution.
7. Implement and document procedures in technical production process, including creation of manuals for standard procedures and training.
8. Preproduction Procedures:
a. Qualifying a factory intended for a specific program to ensure the factory has necessary equipment, staff and experience for a particular style.
b. Initiating and conducting pre-production meetings with Bennett Factory staff before production of any given program to review production scheduling, preproduction samples, all technical and construction steps, tolerances, in-line inspection procedures, trims and packaging requirements.
c. Conduct pilot production runs where appropriate, including new fabric developments, new factory, new construction, new machinery applications, etc.
d. Transmit minutes of pre-production meetings and report of pilot runs to appropriate staff in NBO.
9. Cost engineering and efficiency of utilization:
a. Support and develop cost engineering initiatives to save time and cost in the manufacturing process.
b. contribute to design process to maximize manufacturing ease and efficiency and avoid potential quality or manufacturing problems.
c. work on changes to improve efficiency in fabric consumption in markers.
d. Minimize production issues with regard to garment construction by ensuring all Technicians are adhering to Company and customer standards and parameters, while maintaining Company cost saving initiatives
10. Guide and support account teams in the resolution of any production or quality issues in coordination with the appropriate teams as they arise.
11. Supervise, train and support technical staff, QA and QC staffs in Asia, and the technical aspects of production of garments in all locations utilized by the Company. This includes management of centralized system and repository of all customer fit, spec and garment manuals and requirements.
12. Actively respond to particular technical production problems and issues. Initiate, analyze and follow-through on performance testing for garments in coordination with Customer and Company requirements
13. Issuing management reports regarding progress on the status of the above on a weekly basis to the NBO Executive Team.
14. Evaluating and qualifying sources of supply and manufacturing.
15. Encouraging and strengthening existing factory relationships.
16. Promoting Bennett's technical and production base in business meetings with customers.
Ability to:
· Fit a garment on a live model and dress form.
· Write a size specification.
· Do an approval report, technical specification bulk production package.
· Measure garments according to customer guidelines.
· Revise patterns to insure desired fit, appearance, and friendly production
· Recommend appropriate construction methods.
1. Initiate fit and construction changes requested by buyer and/or USA Technical Manager by issuing technical Sample Requests, detailing corrections that need to be made.
2. Follow-up on fit reports and technical issues with customer's technical department.
3. Track status of sample approval process to insure samples are corrected by BGZ and approved by customer in a timely manner.
4. Issue technical report (cover sheet, size specifications, measurement comment sheet, construction details, label placement, packing instructions) on all approved styles.
5. Request "wash test," if necessary, through NBO Textile Department and report results to buyer.
6. Cost engineering of existing designs; including making recommendations on revisions to construction details, fit, pattern shape which would lower cost of materials and number of operations to manufacturer.
Special Skills Required:
English, Cantonese, and Mandarin speaking and writing required. Good experience level with pattern making, fitting, sewing, and good communication skills, both written and verbal. Knowledge of industrial machinery and production process for lingerie or similar type garments.
Ability to manage and prioritize teams based on job functions, requirements, and workload volume.
Experience Required: Minimum of 5 years garment factory experience
Hands-on experience in pattern making, fitting, sewing, sample construction and workmanship evaluation, fit approval process from initial fit through bulk production.
Computer experience with Windows, email, Excel, Word, and classic and web PDM.
Customer Interface experiences a must.
Educational Background: Four year technical degree preferred.
Travel Required to Perform the Job:
Frequent travel between Hong Kong and China offices and offshore travel within Asia and USA as required.
