Role Title: Senior Software Engineer
Business: Global Banking & Markets IT
Role Purpose / Description
Introduction:
HSBC Global Banking and Markets IT department provides technology solutions to support its Global Banking and Markets business worldwide. Within the department, Global Production Support team is responsible for providing production services to end users.
Finance IT Production Support has ‘follow the sun’ support model in place operating single global team. Teams are located in HK, China, France, UK, Canada and India. Collaboration and coordination with Global Teams is essential for providing support for Global Users.
Services include reporting tools for daily reporting utilising SQL, SYBASE and Oracle database with web based front end tools as well as Microsoft Office products. All systems interact with Front Office and Back office systems as well as the General Ledger. 3rd party products are also used for reporting purpose.
Job Duties:
- Provide daily Technical Support for Finance Applications working closely with HSBC Infrastructure teams in HK and overseas to manage and coordinate the delivery of source data as well as technical updates for applications.
- Ensuring legacy and new implementations follow best practise design standards in line with business requirements and bank technology standards are crucial whilst conforming to SOX rules.
- Monitor service availability of all Finance applications, undertake relevant incident management as well as work towards continual improvement to existing services
- Provide application and technical support for Product Controllers and Finance Users.
- Act as conduit to external parties, within and outside of HSBC, for support services including HTSE, 3rd party vendors etc.
- Be an owner to critical applications, arrange required daily support items, and assign them out properly to 1st line support, meanwhile handle escalated items.
- Involved in Incident Management and Problem Management, to report on service availability, record and log incidents in a timely manner, as well as to communicate to IT and user community.
Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications
- Has good IT background
- Experience in one or more areas of Unix, Linux, MS-Windows, Java and Scripting.
- Experience in one or more arrears of Sybase, Oracle and other DB systems.
- Proficiency in verbal and written English communication skills (frequent communication in oral English with other parties will be required).
- Work under pressure.
- Self-motivated.
- Find logical solutions to problems and manage to resolution. Able to response to production problem with good sense of judgment between escalation and further investigation.
- Understand and attain technical knowledge from on the job experience.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills. Be pragmatic and flexible with an open minded approach to dealing with teams with differences in terms of geographic location, language and culture and relationship and proximity to the users.
- With experience in GB&M products, application systems production support, Perl. PL/SQ, Control M,, XML and HTML would be added advantage.
