Job’s Purpose

Sub Citizenship Strategy Setting & Planning
- Through collaboration with key stakeholders across the subsidiary or business group, develop an annual image agenda, PR/Media Relations strategy, and corporate communications plan.
- Lead integration with key stakeholders (i.e. M&O/CMG/BG, PSG, EPG, SMSP,LCA & ARD) on messaging strategy, media plans, stories and image goals.
- Define an annual Scope of Work that outlines a budget and metrics for Citizenship campaigns, activities and top stories.
- Lead the intersection of communications, policy and government affairs.

Coordinating and managing Citizenship programs in China with the support from Government Affairs, DPE, Legal, ARD and other CMG teams, and other groups to ensure a truly integrated campaign approach to Citizenship communications to media, policy, academic, government, and industry audiences on key issues.

Full alignment of citizenship programs with National China and China Go Big
Define, develop and execute communications strategies for National plan + citizenship
- Help project owners develop, fine tune a communications strategies for the project
- Provide PR and communications support for National plan + citizenship efforts in China
- Coordinate and manage citizenship efforts across BGs and ensure they align with national plan
- Partner with PRM based in Guangzhou to support the execution of China Go Big non-market forces in the region

Storytelling and Messaging
- Through alignment with Corporate Citizenship agenda, proactively develop compelling story ideas and pitches using evidence provided from local program owners, research, industry news, Microsoft products and people, technology, government and lifestyle trends.
- Develop compelling, concise, creative, and credible fact-based messaging to support Corporate and Citizenship PR objectives.
- Act as trusted advisor and coach, briefing management and executives on key messages and storytelling for media interviews and public or internal events.

Responsible for agency review & management on Corporate Citizenship activities, including target setting, measurement processes, and reporting of results. Receives evidence from various program owners (generally the members of the Citizenship Council) about the local impact of Microsoft’s various investments, and develops strong Corporate Citizenship storylines based on that evidence. Coordinates closely with Government Affairs, DPE, Legal, ARD and other CMG teams, and other groups to ensure a truly integrated campaign approach to Citizenship communications to media, policy, academic, government, and industry audiences on key issues.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The ideal candidate will have deep citizenship and communications and project management skills. Solid experience developing and executing significant CSR campaigns, and a sophisticated knowledge of the intersection of communications, policy and government affairs. This position requires frequent contact with all levels of Microsoft executives, managers and employees and frequent contact with gov’t agencies, NGOs and influencers. A minimum of 8-10 years of work experience in public relations, government service, public affairs or journalism is required, and a strong background in marketing and public policy issues is also highly desirable. Experience in building alliances and working with diverse stakeholders effectively and creating win/win solutions with groups of diverse stakeholders internally and externally, and knowledge of information technology a plus. This position requires excellent oral and written communications skills, experience in working with the NGOs, gov’t agencies and strong interpersonal skills. Aptitude for strategic planning and the ability to work under tight deadlines and on several projects simultaneously is also required.
