Senior Corporate Counsel – Reed Business Information - Asia
Provide legal advice and other forms of legal assistance to the company. Independently advise business units on matters requiring developed legal and counseling skills in one or more specified areas of expertise, specifically in the areas of contract negotiation, compliance and litigation support.
Accountabilities
- Provide legal support in Asia Pacific, in particular to the key locations in Singapore and China, and to a range of RBI businesses in the region, in the form of advice on commercial transactions, intellectual property matters, regulatory matters, data protection matters, product development initiatives, disputes and other general corporate matters as assigned.
- Analyze, draft, negotiate and prepare drafts of customer contracts, licence agreements, distribution agreements, alliance agreements, intercompany and other commercial agreements, consistent with company guidelines, independently or as part of a project team with senior attorneys and/or management as required.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of effective processes in the legal team.
- Identify issues, conduct legal research, analyze the law, prepare memoranda, and provide legal advice to internal clients.
- Anticipate and mitigate potential legal issues; develop strategies to avoid litigation and reduce potential areas of risk; assist in dispute resolution and provide litigation support.
- Create and maintain contract forms and templates, coordinating with internal clients and other company lawyers as necessary.
- Assist in educating employees and advising on compliance with RBI policies and procedures.
- Appointment and management of local counsel as required.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Law degree from a top law school in a common law country or China required.
- Must be admitted to practice law in a common law country or China.
- Strong background in matters related to technology and data solutions.
- Experience of working in an international environment, preferably in or with a matrixed multi-national organisation preferred.
- Demonstrable and relevant experience in a law firm or corporate legal department; in-house corporate legal department experience preferred.
- Fluent in spoken and written English and Chinese (Mandarin).
- The position can be based in either Singapore or China (Shanghai or Beijing).
- Highly motivated, and keen on challenging opportunities in a rapidly growing environment.
- The individual should possess strategic problem solving ability, with the ability to see both detail and big picture issues.
