Mechanical Engineer

I. JOB SUMMARY
Plans, organizes and performs complete engineering assignments such as the design of products, parts, components or assigned phases of major projects.

II. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
A. Accurately translate the needs of end users into product specifications.
B. Conceptualize and recommend ideas for new products, product variations and product enhancements.
C. Design new products, product variations and product enhancements for quality by Solidworks.
D. Perform Design validation by state of the art methods (CAE, Quality tools, DOE).
E. Apply tolerances to designs for high volume production.
F. Assign material and heat treat requirements for new product components.
G. Use PDM and ERP system.
H. Prepare 2D drawings for mass production with Solidworks.
I. Recommend manufacturing processes for new products. Helps to identify and evaluate potential suppliers.
J. Design and coordinate construction and use of jigs and fixtures.
K. Collaborate effectively with Manufacturing to effectively utilize DFM tools. Conceptualize fixtures and gages for manufacturing new products.
L. Prepare documentation of engineering information during the development of products.
M. Work with model makers and vendors to build prototypes for testing ideas, photography and vendor samples.
N. Solve existing problems in product manufacturing and design issues.

III. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
A. Recommend model making techniques.
B. Provide leadership to other designers.
C. Administrate PDM system.

IV. EDUCATION/SKILL/EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
A. At least Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering, Master degree is preferred.
B. Minimum 5 years of mechanical design experience is preferred.
C. Proficiency with CAD system required. CAE knowledge preferred.
D. Good knowledge of technical mechanics (Force calculation, etc.)
E. Familiar with industrial manufacturing.
F. Knowledge of PDM system.
G. Able to understand and apply Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) at intermediate to expert level preferred.
H. Product and Process Development, New Product Development Process, Quality Functional Deployment, Design Failure Modes Effect Analysis, Process Failure Modes Effect Analysis, Engineering Change Process, Product and Process Drawings, Lean Overview, 5S, Standard Work, Built in Quality, kaizen Facilitation, Problem Solving Overview, Six Sigma.
