General Background

GTIIT is a new international university established by the Technion in Shantou, Guangdong, China. It is modelled after the Technion, with all instruction conducted in English. Currently, GTIIT has 3 engineering programs:

Chemical/Environmental Engineering

Biotechnology and Food Engineering

Material Engineering.

Job Description

GTIIT is looking for a full-time teaching fellow to instruct the following English courses:

1) Scientific English, Summer Pre-Academic Program (75 hours)

(Instruction: August 13-September 20; Exams: Sep 21-28)

2) Technical English (3 credits, 4 hours/week), Fall Semester (13 weeks)

(Instruction: October 8-January 8; Exams: Jan 14-Feb 22)

3) Technical English Communication (3 credits, 4 hours/week), Spring Semester (13 weeks)

(Instruction: February 25-June 5; Exams: June 10-July 5)

A full-time position at GTIIT involves 20 credits of instruction over the academic year distributed over the semesters, and may include several groups of the above courses. Teaching is based on materials produced/used by the Humanities and Arts Department of the Technion. Classes are limited to 30 students each, in spirit with current Technion practice.

Duties and Responsibilities

· Teach several groups of the above courses;

· Prepare supplementary materials and exams;

· Conduct class discussions on technical texts;

· Enhance students' reading, writing, and communication skills.

Position Requirements

· Education: Graduate degree (preferably PhD) or a Teaching Certificate in English/Linguistics/ESL

. Adequate knowledge of Chemistry, Biology or a related scientific/technical field (preferably a degree in one of these fields)

· Native English speaker

· Experience: Several years of teaching in a college/university setting.
