Total Corbion PLA bv is a global technology leader in Poly Lactic Acid (PLA) and lactide monomers. PLA is a bio-based and biodegradable polymer made from annually renewable resources, offering a reduced carbon footprint versus many traditional plastics. Total Corbion PLA, headquartered in the Netherlands, will start up a new production plant in Thailand in the second half of 2018. The company is a 50/50 joint venture between Total and Corbion.
Application Center China
The Application Center China gives market development and technical support to the company's sales organization in Asia. In order to grow the business and strengthen our team, we invite applications for the position of:
Senior Scientist
The Job:
You will lead the technical team of the Application Center China.
In the field of PLA products, processing and applications, you will be responsible for a portfolio of projects. These projects cover a broad range of plastic applications, such as compounding, film blowing, thermoforming, injection molding and fiber spinning. For these (strategic) projects/programs you will be the technical project leader, applying your expertise & skills under laboratory conditions, on industrial scale at a customer site, or at universities or other institutes and you will coordinate between the external party and the internal organization. For the above mentioned applications you will also provide technical services to the sales organization.
With industry, trade associations and academia you will establish and maintain an effective network.
You will have a pivotal role in capturing know-how from projects and other activities, identifying (new) skills and relevant technologies, and making these available to the relevant communities in the company.
In order to advice R&D management, you will translate business requirements into research strategies (<5 years), including advice on external cooperation partners.
Within your responsibilities you will also signal patent opportunities and provide content for patent applications.
Your profile:
1. You hold a minimum degree of PhD or equivalent in a technical field (e.g. chemistry, polymer chemistry, physics, engineering or similar) with a proven track record (over 4 years) in product and/or process development in the plastics industry.
2. You can demonstrate a strong expertise in polymer processing technologies and polymer analytical techniques.
3. You have a broad knowledge of the relevant scientific literature and are able to evaluate and supervise PhD level work and assess its relevance for the business.
4. We expect you to have a self-confident inquisitive mind, good analytical skills, a hands-on mentality, a pro-active attitude and a drive for (self) improvement.
5. You display excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you are able to work independently and have proven yourself as a team leader.
6. Your command of the English language is proficient.
7. You are willing to travel extensively (>50% of working hours).
8. If business requires, you are prepared to relocate to other areas of mainland China.
