Sr. or Staff QA Specialist, Co-Man & Co-Pack
Summary:
This position leads quality assurance activities with external contract manufacturers to execute and monitor product quality, food safety and quality programs. The position leads significant QA programs and undertakes programs of moderate to very high complexity depending on the job level. This position serves as the quality representative and Hershey liaison for these plants ensuring products are manufactured in compliance with company specifications and regulatory requirements. This position functions as the primary quality assurance contact for the plant and assures quality programs are functioning properly, supports continuous improvement efforts as well as providing problem solving guidance. This position provides technical expertise on planning for and start up of new product introductions, line extensions and product relocations. Typical activities include auditing external manufacturing facilities to ensure compliance with government regulations and company quality/food safety policies and procedures. The position also has key responsibilities to assure adequate and clear communications (both written and verbal) to the Company and Co-Manufacturers. This individual will serve as QRC representative for new product start ups at co-manufacturing facilities which would include conducting QDRs (quality design reviews), assure that HACCP master control plans are in place and that all prerequisite programs are implemented.
In addition to the above activities:
Must be able to travel up to 40% of the time with possible weekend travel and stays required.
Must be flexible to participate in trips that arise with short notice.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
Compliance: Designing, implementing and monitoring quality systems and programs to ensure regulatory standards are consistently achieved. Provides training programs, auditing of quality systems, complex troubleshooting and large-scale incident management.
? Training: Develops and delivers training programs for regulatory issues or quality programs. Possesses superior communication and expert presentation skills and be able to interact with all levels of employees. Conducts programs to ensure that food quality, safety and regulatory standards are met.
? Auditing: Conducts quality systems audits across Supply Chain, specifically in Asia N and S. to provide assessments of adequacy and issues recommendations or guidelines to ensure compliance standards are met. Lead audits that evaluate and determine the adequacy of potential new business partners.
? Incident Management: Directs or provides leadership to troubleshooting incidents of moderate to complexity with the potential large financial or regulatory impact.. Partner with cross functional groups (Marketing, Legal, etc.) and external business partners to ensure communications and action plans are developed and implemented. Ensure timely and cost-effective resolutions are achieved.
Project Leadership / New Product Support: Acts as QA representative on multi-functional project teams or complex assignments. Must have successful experience leading multifunctional teams. May coordinate new product efforts from initial test runs to full-scale production to assure integrity of systems. Must have proven skills to write and effectively communicate technical issues in a clear and concise manner. Must be able to verbally communicate with internal and external personnel effectively.
Must be able to lead, make decisions and provide guidance to business partners with little or no supervision. Must be able to develop and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external entities.
Subject Matter Expert: At this level, incumbent is considered to be a quality “generalist” with a broad and thorough knowledge of food quality and safety principles, quality system development and implementation, regulations, industry practices, and corporate policies related to these areas.
Continuous Improvement
Facilitate process/procedure improvement sessions related to: incident management, serious product quality issues, and overall quality system improvements
Knowledge, Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities
? B.S. or M.S. in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field
? B.S. Min 7-9yrs experience in food industry or equivalent experience
M.S. Min 5-7 yrs experience in food industry or equivalent experience
? Thorough understanding of food regulatory issues
? Ability to travel minimum of 50%.
? Valid driver license.
? Superior communication skills in verbal and written form. Advanced presentation skills.
? Ability to effectively interact with all levels of employees (from Production to VP level). Ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical audiences.
? Ability to make business decisions in light of strategic company objectives
? Ability to represent Hershey and establish relationships with outside agencies (regulatory, co-mfg, suppliers, etc)
? Advanced problem solving/trouble shooting skills
? In depth understanding of a production / manufacturing environment
? Advanced proficiency in computer programs / software such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point, SAP (Recipe Management), Net Weight and QA Trends
? Detailed knowledge of regulatory and quality system requirements – PEP, HACCP, Good Manufacturing Process (GMP), etc.
