Description:
The AIX Administrator is responsible for planning,implementing and maintaining the AIX platform and solutions. This includes systems management and administration and providing back up suport to the primary AIX Administrator. This position requires significant knowledge in AIX systems to configure, support, and optimize operating system and processes while keeping up on new technology products in the AIX environment. The selected candidate may be responsible for providing direction, training, and mentoring to control center staff as it relates to AIX but, will not have any direct reports.
This individual will report directly to the IT Manager. As a member of the KSC Information Technology the AIX Administrator will need to work effectively at all levels in a matrixed organization to successfully perform task, acquire necessary resources, propose change, and implement solutions.
Duties:
- Implement and maintain AIX solutions to support systems such as WebSphere, MDM(Master Data Management), and DB2.
- Across a multi-LPAR environment plan, execute, and maintain major platform software and operating system upgrades.
- Improve avialability, response time, and monitoring of key system metrics on the AIX platform by planning, designing, and implementing feature enhancements.
- Install, maintain, and configure Clustering and High Availability.
- Participate in troubleshooting and training activities as needed. Research problems with available resources and collaborate with IBM support as appropriate for resolution.
- Maintain NIM environment, including package maintenance, centralized MKSYSB backups and operating system images, and troubleshoot environmental and performance issues utilizing AIX tools and data.
- Administer the VIO environment including provisioning physical and shared disks to LPARs, provisioning virtual adapters for client LPARs, and manaing configurations that ficilitate partition mobility and high availability.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required
- 3-5 years of overall Information Technology enperience preferred
- 1-3 years of qualified AIX/Unix experience as Aystem Administrator and / or Enginner prefeered
- Previous experience with WebSphere, DB2, and Information server preferred
- Demonstrated experience in systems management and administration
- Experience planning the installation and integration of software packages
- Advanced knowledge of Clustering, load balancing, SAN, and High Availability technologies
- Proficiency in System Backup and Recovery, Monitoring, Unix Security, Scripting, Performance Tuning, and Capacity Planning
- Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Highly self-motivated
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Solutions focused with project management capability
