Job Description:
I. JOB PURPOSE
The Application Engineer is the customer technical interface to CMC customers and crucial link between sales, R&D, quality team and other functions. Provide technical support/service which includes executing the application solutions, identify CTQs and collaborate with internal supporting team to develop product specifications and adoptable applications solutions to facilitate CMC products adoption by customers. Translate and understand customers’ needs to drive the data package for the project engagement and be accountable for problem solving and issue identification of CMC’s products application issues.
II. KEY RESULT AREAS
- Customer Interface
Provide on-site technical support of product performance demonstration. Understand the performance needs of our customers and how new solutions will be implemented within the constraints of fab processes.
Be the Voice Of the Customer for communication with internal teams. Develop, plan, execute, and interpret polishing experiments and communicate results with stakeholders to facilitate the selling process
Troubleshooting of customers’ application issues where CMC’s products are used. And co-work with customers to eliminate variation from products and processes which enhance CMC’s technical leading position.
Ability to develop effective technical presentations that position and promote the product as defined in the business strategy
- R & D, Operations, Quality, Logistics and Sales Interface/Support
Application Engineer communicates customer issues and/or customer needs to the appropriate functional area. Examples include process sensitivities to specific circuit designs and/or polishing tool platform, quality and/or product performance inconsistencies, and customer recommendations for product enhancements.
The Engineer role must be proficient in statistical experiment design, data analysis/ interpretation skills, and identifying data measurement irregularities. In addition, the individual should possess a practical, working knowledge of slurry/pad product information, CMP process operation, thin-film metrology, slurry distribution and wafer inspection equipment.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Assistance in identifying new opportunities
- Gathering and reporting information on competitor’s products
- Assisting Marketing and Sales in the sales and support of CMC products
- Participating in Sales calls on current and potential customers
- Conveying the customer’s plans for new equipment installations, targeted CMP applications, type of polishing tools
- Helping the organization establish customer and competitor profiles
Comments:
- Amount of Travel necessary:
- Regular field visits to customers and equipment vendors’ facilities to conduct demo, sample trials and certification.
- On a need basis intra regional application support within Asia Pacific.
- On a need basis to R & D Aurora for training, product testing and development.

? IC process knowledge/experience, technical skills in IC CMP process applications is plus
? Possess understanding/technical expertise of customer applications and processes for the products. Ability to develop effective technical presentations that position and promote the product as defined in the business strategy
