Summary:
Technical Office lead schedules estimating and detailing requests in a timely fashion with the estimators and detailers and communicates to sales any requested dates that are not going to be met. Provide technical support to sales, plant personnel, and trains and is a resource to the detailers and estimators.
Duties:
Utilize knowledge of manufacturing machinery and processes, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials, and other physical sciences to complete drawings.
Show dimensions, material to be used, and other information necessary to make detailed drawing clear and complete.
Develop bills of material, material take offs, tolerance and dimensioning of products, welding and manufacturing symbols, and other requirements to produce product.
Accurately document adjustments or engineering drawing changes necessary or desired drawings, bill of materials and related documents.
Adhere to department policies and procedures for detailing, estimating and engineering drawings.
Recommend changes to product which would improve cost, delivery, and quality for the customer.
Participate in overall product strategy, development, and manufacturing coordination for new, existing, and emerging products.
Communicate and coordinate with account and project managers any project specific information. Communicates as needed with the customer to assure all work is thorough and accurate.
Read, interpret and review grating products on any type of provided drawings. Read, interpret and review project specifications. Performs material takeoffs, assembles estimates and forwards to the sales department. Determine the estimated costs on individual projects.
Performs all duties according to established company operating, safety, environmental, engineering, and quality policies. Determine load calculations for grating. Requisition appropriate material for pricing.
Collaborate with cross-functional groups (Manufacturing, Logistics, Accounting, and suppliers) to resolve product-related customer and production issues. Interface with teams that address quality, new product introduction, capacity issues, purchasing, and planning.
Answers questions and provides training for other project detailers and estimators.
Schedules engineering requests in a timely fashion with the project detailers and communicates to sales any requested dates that are not going to be met.
Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Technical Office Lead will be responsible for the supervision of the project detailing/estimating team.
Technical Office Lead will carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Ohio Gratings, organizational policies, applicable federal, state, and local laws. Responsibilities include: training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; coordinating performance appraisal with detailing manager: addressing complaints, resolving problems.
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor degree with 3-5 year experience. Prefer degree in engineering, drafting/design, or technical studies. Experience with metals, welding symbols and manufacturing processes a plus.
Technical Office Lead must have strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) suite of applications, AutoCAD 2007, and MRP/ERP system experience. Must have a high level of energy; be results-oriented, and confident. Must be able to establish and maintain a strong rapport and positive relationships with all levels. Must be strategic in orientation, proactive, persistent, and able to handle multiple projects and/or customers simultaneously, as well as work within a very fast-paced environment.
