Position Purpose
Grain trade is a key part of GOSC GCK business, and the import business will be more and more critical in the near future. Grains supply and demand drives the market and also our trading business. Delicate GTA resource to the grain demand is valuable to GCK current business, and more significant to the future needs of both GCK and CASC. The role of this position as a member of the BU as well as Platform GTA team is to build grains demand forecast, maintain/update S&Ds, and provide timely and actionable trading insights based on China S&Ds. The role will require significant interaction with the Risk Management Team, Commercial Team, as well as global GTA team and WTU grain traders. The analyst will be responsible for building a system for grains demand analysis, coordinating and establishing both short and long term S&Ds for China. Most importantly the person in this position will be to distill Cargill’s collective China view on grains via econometric/statistical analysis and turn it into actionable insights for our BU risk management, assets management, trading as well as WTU trading game plans.
Principal Accountabilities
70%
1) Build sound short term econometric-based forecasts of feed grain demand and trade flows of grains.
2) Build sound short term forecasts of food demand and industrial usage of grains.
3) Work with trading and commercial teams to identify, consolidate, and analyze regional data and turn the data into insights
4) Work closely with crop forecasting team and protein demand analyst(s) in China.
5) Maintain and improve records of state reserve information.
6) Consider and incorporate insights from Cargill’s key businesses into analysis.
7) Provide actionable/tradable market insights based on S&D analysis.
8) Proactive search for insights.
20%
Lead grain demand updates of the Cargill Long term model for China, which is a very important part of Cargill global model. This effort will require forecasts based economic fact, and understanding of government policies.
10%
Participate in various GTA World Economic Analysis Team calls, BU/platform projects, and other GTA initiatives
Other Requirements
Both domestic and international travel will be required
Required Qualifications
1) Master’s Degree in Ag Economics, Economics, MBA, Statistics or similar field
2) 2-5 year’s analysis experience in feed, oilseeds, grains, or vegetable oils, in a major producing or consumption region
3) Knowledge of agricultural trading business, and what information adds value to trading
4) Working knowledge and experience with regression modeling
5) Excellent communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
1) Experience in feed grain or food grain analysis
2) Advanced statistical modeling skills including Monte Carlo analysis
