Position Description
The Senior Manager will develop, direct and monitor large/complicated research and/or strategy initiatives. The Senior Manager is expected to provide intellectual leadership for teams and collaborate with other departments to ensure that projects are delivered on time, harnessing the team’s capabilities and company resources to ensure the development of creative answers/solutions to complex questions/problems.
In addition to project leadership, the Senior Manager will help deliver impact for Walmart through people leadership (by managing, coaching and developing team members) and knowledge leadership (by providing guidance to others on best practices and codifying findings from projects).
- Maintain data sources, both internal and external, to ensure up-to-date market intelligence relevant to the business, including but not limited to report subscriptions, database access, and collaborative relationships with Ops, BD, Marketing, or external research organizations.
- Manage research and analysis workstreams by setting up complex problems in logical framework for team to answer efficiently and completely, ensuring rigorous analysis and consistently high-quality deliverables.
- Stay abreast of latest developments in China retail market, including but not limited to rapidly interpreting financial disclosures of competitors, analyst research reports, and market news.
- Deliver regular reports on market insights, competitor performance, and business metrics. Where opportunities for new insights exist, conduct ad-hoc market and/or competitor analysis, through desk and/or field research.
- Identify initiatives with potential drive top-line or bottom-line growth in areas where we do not currently have capacity. Grow pipeline of innovative projects, including but not limited to retail M&A, vertical integration, new technologies or management tools, etc.
- Develop analytical tools and support for new initiatives, from initial proof of concept to handover to business function for longer-term use.
- Draft memos and presentations to communicate market insights or strategy recommendations at the appropriate level of detail for the intended business audience
? Builds strong relationships with key stakeholders at all levels to holistically understand business needs and identify appropriate opportunities to provide value through market insights.
- Design, deliver, and maintain platform(s) to store, organize, and share key findings and insights, contributing to the knowledge base of Walmart China.
- Provides supervision and development opportunities for junior team members by conducting trainings, coaching individuals, and building a team-based work environment.
- This position is responsible for assisting in the operation of a department. An individual in this position will be expected to perform additional job related responsibilities and duties as assigned and/or necessary.
*Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree; MBA preferred
- 4-6 years within a strategic planning function with a top MNC or management consulting firm
- Exceptional problem solving and analytical skills
- Ability to think conceptually & creatively
- Excellent oral, written and formal presentation skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in teams
- Good administrative and organization skills
- Experience managing projects, including ability to provide direction and generate results working with internal and external resources
- Ability to interact with all levels of management
- Strong corporate finance and data analysis skills
- Fluent in spoken and written English
