Job Description:
Carry out and manage Burton Sustainability goals and initiatives on the ground in Asia, with a focus on continuous improvement.
Essential Functions (other duties may be assigned):
- Carryout social audits in Burton contract factories throughout Asia, with a focus in China.
- Work with vendors on corrective action follow-up
- Create innovative solutions with factories to solve frequent and difficult problems
- Work with factories on sustainability initiatives, including training and improvement on the HIGG Tool
- Communicate sustainability standards, goals, and processes with vendors.
- Develop and continuously improve the audit tools and grading matrix (audit scoring), as well as Standard Operating Procedures around auditing, remediation and capacity building at factories
- Oversee third party audits/auditors that we may use
- Facilitate brand collaboration between other brands’ field staff
- Facilitate roll-out of initiatives, such as the Higg Index supplier module
- Attend conferences & seminars to understand the latest trends in the field
- Maintain relationships with other internal staff based out of our liaison offices (quality, materials, production, etc), ensuring Sustainability is not an afterthought
Education and Experience:
- The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree
- Experienced social auditor in Asia (2-5 years) – including audits, corrective action follow-up and training
- Excellent communicator – with vendors, Burton team
- Strong English language skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Driven, innovative, big-picture thinker
- Pro-active problem solver, solution-oriented
- Independent
- Ability to travel – mainly within China but also outside of China.
