JOB SUMMARY:
The Advance Materials and Manufacturing team is responsible for researching and exploring; materials, suppliers and manufacturing processes to support our future products.

The Manager (Director) of Advanced Materials and Manufacturing will lead a Shenzhen , China based team and support the product development process with search, identification, assessment, and selection of new materials, processes, and suppliers.
He/she will assist with cost modeling and setting cost targets.
This role will require active collaboration across Product Management, Industrial Design, Engineering, and Asian based suppliers.

This role would suit a self-motivated, results-oriented individual who is comfortable in a casual, but fast paced, environment. This position reports to the Director of Advanced Materials and Manufacturing.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Lead a team to find and explore materials, suppliers and manufacturing processes to support future products.
2. Collaborate with Engineering and Operations teams to lead supplier qualification and ensure the best in class candidates are considered.
3. Research/explore materials, processes and technologies that will differentiate our products, while reducing cost and increasing quality/reliability.
4. Provide input to Engineering/Product Management teams on component and material selection/costs.
5. Be an expert in multiple facets of the manufacturing process and have a wide knowledge of the materials used in consumer electronics.
6. Assist Product Management in establishing cost targets and in tradeoff evaluation.

DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
1. Proven track record in leading a material team, preferably in the consumer electronics market, working with Asian based manufacturers
2. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, in a fully outsourced supply chain model; setting priorities, identifying and addressing problems, and meeting deadlines
3. Previous experience in a variety of manufacturing processes
4. Broad and in-depth knowledge of good manufacturing practices and industry standards
5. Ability to plan, organize, and implement multiple concurrent tasks
6. Excellent problem solving & analytical skills
7. Effective interpersonal, communication and presentation skills with an ability to overcome language and cultural barriers
8. Must be willing to travel as required to support supplier search, assessment and support activities.
9. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint)
10. Experience in negotiations with suppliers and in financial analysis desired.
11. Must be fluent (speak, read and write) in English. Local languages a plus.
12. Experience with Apple Computers/Mac OS a plus.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Material Science or Engineering, Industrial Technology or other relevant field of study (or equivalent experience.)
