We are looking for an experienced Apparel Merchandiser, with commercial experience and a background in Merchandising preferably with Factory Audit knowledge to work in our China office.
This role will involve:
As a merchandiser, your primary focus will be to help win new business by sourcing high quality merchandise at competitive prices on time and within budget. Identifying reputable ETI certified factories is a key component of your role, so Matrix APA Apparel can offer a market leading Apparel "one-stop shop" service that delivers on design, price, quality and speed.
Business will be initially be introduced by UK sales and marketing team. You will work together closely, as part of the team, to ensure that support is given to all areas of the business.
In this role, you should have the following personal profile:
· Written and oral fluency in English, Cantonese and Mandarin including technical terminology specific for garment construction
· Thorough knowledge of Garments and Fabrics for both Woven and Jersey Apparel
· Understanding of the cost breakdown of a garment to ensure factories are offering fair pricing
· Excellent negotiation skills
· Excellent communication skills with a natural ability to build strong relationships
· Exceptional problem solving skills
· Superb organiser with a professional and mature manner
· Proactive and results orientated with the determination to see projects through from start to finish
Your key responsibilities for this role are as follows:
Merchandising
· Follow working processes and procedures to ensure all areas of your developments and orders are managed effectively and to avoid unnecessary errors.
· Ensure absolute understanding of all product briefs and discuss with the UK team if further clarification is needed.
Work with UK Account Managers to assist in sample development and customer queries to enable total customer satisfaction.
· Ensure all Labdips/Strike Offs/Bulk Fabrics etc. are presented to the London office precisely and accurately labelled and ready to send out to customers.
· Ensure consistency of communication and submissions to maintain the highest customer satisfaction.
· Check and Measure all samples carefully (for quality, make-up, appearance, colour etc) before sending to ensure they represent the brief as intended and feedback any issues to Matrix/Client.
· Photograph all samples before shipping and email to London office
· Track sample management by recording sample movements so the UK team knows when to expect them and there is a clear understanding of which samples have been approved.
· Maintain sample storage to ensure all samples are labelled and stored correctly to avoid loss or confusion.
· Work with factories to create and manage the critical path process so key deadlines are met.
· Work as part of a team to ensure that support is given to all areas of the business.
· Regularly communicate with the UK Account Managers to provide feedback on developments/orders and clarify any questions or concerns.
· Maintain a clear and well organised on line filing system for all internal and external project communications.
· Liaise with UK Account Managers and factories to ensure that the product is technically achievable and commercially viable thus meeting aggressive cost, quality and logistical targets.
· Accompany clients and/or UK Account Managers on factory visits, where necessary, including liaising with factories to complete an effective travel itinerary.
Sourcing Factories and Products
· Travel to suppliers to build strong relationships with existing and new factories.
· Update and Maintain Factory profiles and make these available to customers when necessary
· Liaise with suppliers to obtain information about their other customers and their products and to get a strong understanding of the full range of products the supplier can manufacture and supply.
· Attend trade fairs where necessary to enhance knowledge of product & market competitors.
Finance and Buying
· Manage quotation system to UK Account Managers keeping an accurate record of each costing and ensuring target gross margins are being met.
· Ensure all subsidiary charges are accounted for (and charged to the client where necessary) e.g. unforeseen testing, production, packing, packaging and freight charges.
· Where possible, cross cost garments with at least 1 additional factory.
· Negotiating with packaging and trim suppliers to improve ‘delivered margins’
Safety and QC
· Oversee the QC process for all your orders.
· Liaise with Garment Technologist and external safety testing companies to ensure all fabrics/trims adhere to the customers testing requirements
· Check that incoming test reports match and pass requirements or liaise with Garment Technologist and Design Director to discuss necessary changes.
· Understand the importance of quality control through all stages of product development, working closely with the China based QC team to ensure full risk analysis is performed and agreed by the factory before production begins.
· Final confirmation that all samples received are approvable for fit and make-up.
· Visit factories and ensure regular audits are undertaken to guarantee use of reputable sources.
Assist the internal QC team in carrying out inspections of factories.
Deliveries
· Through your effective critical path management ensure that all deliveries are on time.
· Relay extension requests from the factories to the UK Account Managers when required.
· Ensure that there is a clear audit trail for all situations that arise to minimize client penalties.
· Ensure any discounts/late shipment charges are accepted by suppliers where they have caused the delay.
