Job Title: Materials Developer

Department: Footwear Division

Location: Dongguan, China

Key Purpose of the Job:

To support our Global Product and Supply Chain teams by driving innovation, performance and value for raw material development. Encourage collaboration across categories, suppliers and along the entire supply chain to intensify progress and communication.

Act as primary Asia material contact to Product teams in UK, with focus on material development and innovation. Ensuring material integrity and driving all related material development activity through to production.

Needs to do:

· Understand the brand vision, strategy and objectives

· Ensure that all stages of process are completed on schedule

· Monitor production with relevant raw material vendors to ensure standards are met

· Work closely with Product Development and Merchandising colleagues, ensuring relevant information is shared

· Provided clear, regular reporting on status

· Knowledge of product testing requirements and Restricted Substances legislation

· Monitor and improve process as required

· Stay up to date with innovation and new technology within the industry

Material Innovation

· Drive textile material excellence with development/innovation on raw material, construction, pattern, process, finishing, chemical and machinery.

· Identify opportunities for the brands that fit their needs or provide some type of strategic advantage, i.e. sustainable, point of difference, costing advantage, sourcing advantage, material trend advantage, etc.

· Act as the primary resource to product creation for related textile material sourcing, negotiation, approval

Supply chain management

· Establish a strong rapport and knowledge of all of Footwear Division material vendors gauging their strengths and weaknesses with regards to development, service, quality, capacity, delivery and costs - Be the “first window of communication” to all raw material vendors.

· Communicate Pentland social and environmental policy and requirement to Tier 2 vendors, assist in management of Restricted Substances policy across material supply chain

Needs to Have:

· 5+ years of material sourcing experience for Footwear

· College graduate preferred, or candidate with relevant experience and professional qualifications

· Extensive network of component suppliers, including leather, fabrics, synthetics, laces, soles, trims etc.

· Extensive knowledge of Restricted Substances and testing requirements

· Detailed knowledge of footwear testing and standards

· Full understanding of all QC processes

· Experienced in footwear production

· Experienced in QC for international brands

· Strong organisation skills

· Self-motivated, able to work effectively alone or as part of a team

· Understanding of critical path and seasonal deadlines

· Technical knowledge and sourcing experience of some of the following categories - textiles, leather,

rubbers, EVA,PU, Internal components.

· Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills, strong personality, proactive communication;

· Continuous improvement techniques (Lean, Kaizen) are helpful
