POSITION DESCRIPTION
I use my knowledge of our company and our local market to work together with the management group and my team, in an inspiring, supportive and challenging way. I do this to steer the store towards growth, optimal performance and sustained long term profitability, in line with the company objectives and values. I always take a multi-dimensional view, considering customer, commercial, people, financial and operational perspectives.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Customers
- I ensure our store is always a safe and secure environment for visitors and co-workers and that our property is safeguarded.
- I am proactive in using all the information and tools available, to ensure a multidimensional approach to steering the business in order to achieve growth and sustained long term profitability with our customers in focus.
- I always look at our store through the eyes of our customers and walk the shop floor at different times throughout the opening hours, often together with the commercial team. I use this opportunity to interact with customers and co-workers and understand what is working and what is not.
- I spend time in the operational areas within my direct responsibilities to ensure that I understand the priorities and improvement potentials. I take into account the perspective of the co-workers in these areas, so I can lead, motivate and support them in order to improve the shopping experience of our customers.
Commercial
- I work with the store team by supporting and challenging them so we grow our business with sustained long term profitability. I do this by:
- Proactively working with local market data to understand peoples’ life at home in order to support sales growth.
- Understanding the company range and commercial priorities in order to support and contribute to the commercial agenda.
- Having the full overview of the Profit & Loss (P&L) for the store and understand how different actions impact the different lines in the P&L.
- Working together with the commercial team and the shopkeepers to broaden our commercial and financial knowledge, in order to maximise the commercial opportunities in our local market. I encourage taking fast action on opportunities as well as acting on customer feedback, competition, supply and performance analysis.
- Seeking and identifying business opportunities which will grow sales and improve gross profit by using all available information and benchmarking with other stores.
- Working with my colleagues to secure the effective implementation of tools, working methods and best practice, in order secure a strong retail foundation and raise our existing base. We follow up on these to ensure we maximise the benefits.
- Driving sales growth by being aware of the top sellers, supporting the range renewal process and making most effective use of price adjustments.
- Securing knowledge and understanding of all the components driving Gross Margin throughout the store, so that we work together to maximise the Gross Profit.
- Using my store performance analysis, together with my knowledge of company and of different working processes across the whole store, to identify proven solutions and ideas to make us quicker, leaner and simpler
- Working in partnership with the Management team to lead the staff planning process within the store. Our aim is to ensure that we have the right number of competent co-workers, at the right times, in the right places to meet visitor and customer needs and secure goods availability.
- Ensuring I understand the impact changes in the store environment has on customers’ shopping behaviors and co-workers working methods. As a management team we work with this knowledge to decide how to invest in property, maintenance and cleaning routines in order to positively impact sales and productivity in a cost effective way.
People

Financial
- I partner with the Store Manager in co-coordinating the Management process. We work together to ensure that the store is steered towards common company objectives and executes the commercial direction in an efficient and effective way. I do this by:
- Actively contributing to the development of the store Business Plan, ensuring it is aligned with company global directions, the country’s priorities and local potential.
- Using my knowledge of the store, our global and country priorities and the local market to support the development of our local Marketing Plan and Commercial Strategy.
- Supporting the management team to create Actions Plans for their areas of responsibility. These are based on the store business plan, agreed goals and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- I take responsibility to summarize and communicate our Financial Goals (including P&L) to ensure that they are agreed, communicated and clearly understood by everyone.
- Proactively working to develop the Scenario Plans based on how we will take fast action if the performance is better or worse than planned. I ensure these scenarios are well documented, realistic and communicated.
- Driving the follow-up process to ensure we focus on delivering the business plan. I support my colleagues to achieve their goals.
- I am responsible for co-coordinating and agreeing updated forecasts throughout the year. I ensure the Business navigation team at Service Office is up-dated.
- I am responsible for securing that the costs are in line with goals and to highlight deviations and potentials, in order that we can take action to achieve our goals.
- I encourage my team and colleagues to discover even more effective and cost conscious ways of working to make us quicker, leaner and simpler, and through this lower our cost structure.
- I ensure we work together to close the gap between the performance of our store and other stores. We use benchmarking and store clusters, together with functional BN and commercial growth reviews, to identify potentials and implement proven solutions.
- I steer effective use of staffing resources through using productivity measurement to ensure we constantly evaluate and improve our staff planning.
- I monitor and analyze the staff cost and work with the HR Manager to ensure that we have the appropriate mix of staff to work in the most cost efficient way and meet our staff cost budget.
- I negotiate cost effective contracts with external service providers under my direct responsibility and support my colleagues to do the same, always using the tools and competence provided by Indirect Material & Services (IMS). When I do this I always consider the sustainability aspect and the environmental impact.
- I work with my colleagues to analyze benefits, costs and investments and develop business cases. I do this to ensure that we invest in projects that give a good return on investment, exceeding our customers’ expectations, whilst securing our long-term profitability.
- I communicate relevant business information and goals to managers and co-workers, in a way which engages and inspires them to create meaningful actions to achieve our agreed goals.
Operation
- I have the knowledge and ability to partner with the Store Manager in achieving excellence in operations.
- As BNOM I work with my different matrix managers to ensure I understand and work with global and national priorities. I am responsible for the following areas and/or departments:
- Safety and security - ensuring that the rules and guidelines from the company Group Risk Manual and country legislation are implemented and monitored in order to ensure the safety of our co- workers and visitors and that our property is safeguarded.
- Property and maintenance - ensuring the store is in shape as new by managing maintenance and property. I secure that our investments minimize the environmental impact and that consumptions (like energy, gas, water etc.) are as efficient as possible.
- ASR/Admin., Rules & guidelines and Local Routines – ensuring that the managers understand and agree on expectations and standards within their teams regarding routines and regularly follow up on these.
- Cash administration and Accounting - I am responsible for accurate administration in accordance with the legal framework in our country and the company financial rules.
- IT – ensure we are in-line with company standards and have the appropriate approved tools in place to maximise productivity and efficiency.
- Recovery - effectively managing the recovery department to achieve the best balance between ASIS sales and costs, in-line with the company commitment to being a responsible company when it comes to sustainability.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Previous management experience in a financial/commercial role with proven analytical and numerical skills
- Understand the profit and loss and how to affect its result through actions
- Experience of setting and implementing action plans, setting budgets, provide clear direction and following up goals
- Proven record of consistently meeting agreed budgets and goals, and working on plans over a number of years.
- Ability to quickly develop knowledge of the local market and business conditions and take commercial decisions based on this information
- Self-reliant and motivated with proven ability to work as part of a larger team
- Ability to influence in a matrix organization
- Experience of leading in a changing environment
- Open minded and actively seeks out new ways of working
- Ability to prioritise and organise my work and the work of others in order to make the most efficient use of time available
