Dongguan Procurement Manager, Dongguan

General Description

Responsible for direct procurement of Steelcase’s plant in Dongguan, including the definition of a Procurement strategy, selection of suppliers and management of the relationship with our suppliers. Manage a team of 3 local buyers. Interact with the Plant Management and his teams to resolve supply issues and implement continuous improvement actions. Coordinate with the AP Regional Procurement team and/or the Global Procurement teams for regional and global topics. This position reports to the AP Procurement Director directly.

Responsibilities

1. Define and maintain Dongguan Procurement strategy for local material groups and build-up local supplier base accordingly – includes supplier research and sourcing, understanding of local supplier base for each material group, follow-up of market trends, understanding of material group cost drivers, risk assessment, etc.

2. Perform supplier visits and audits, manage supplier relationship on a daily basis. Implement contracts and negotiate prices and other agreements (inventory, tooling, lead time, etc.) with suppliers.

3. Monitor supplier performance (service and quality) and follow-up of corrective actions with the supplier. Support the plant in the resolution of day-to-day supplier issues. Initiate supplier development actions if needed.

4. Permanently identify and implement opportunities for material cost reductions – through competition (RFQs) and price negotiation, supply chain changes, specification reviews, lean initiatives, etc.

5. Support plant projects for continuous improvement: cost savings, localization, make-or-buy studies, lean, inventory optimization, technical changes, etc.

6. Involvement in product development project teams: RFQ submission, supplier selection, part validation (PPAP), etc.

7. Management of Dongguan Procurement team (3 buyers): objectives setting, team meetings, development plan, day-to-day management and coaching

Skills and Competencies

· 5-7 years procurement and relevant experience in manufacturing industry, ideally in Southern China and in a multi-national company

· Engineering, Supply Chain, Business Management or Finance educational background

· Fluent in English

· Good communication and negotiation skills

· Team management experience

· Technical understanding, expertise in specific technologies (die casting, metal stamping, plastics, etc.) is a plus

· SAP knowledge is a plus
