Key Accountabilities
Manage a tool shop, work shop and a team of technicians and machine operators supporting the design and development of world-class tooling and manufacturing processes for new development projects with demanding geometric and cosmetic requirements
Collaborate with the engineering team in tool/fixture design, and equipment/process definition.
Collaborate with the internal product development team on the tooling/manufacturing feasibility of designs, along with determining the achievable cosmetic requirements for new parts
Implement industry best practices in tool and fixture design, for a wide range of materials and processes including plastic/alloy parts, soft goods and secondary decorative and finishing processes
Be responsible for all aspects of the tool shop operations including resource planning, capacity planning/scheduling and facilities management.
Evaluate the tooling and equipment requirements for new projects, and influence designs based on equipment/process capability, cost targets, and part quality requirements and complexity
Provide tool/jigs/fixture cost analysis for new development project budgets and engage with equipment suppliers to ensure equipment lead-times are understood.
Be responsible for researching and identifying best in class machining/prototyping equipment.
Manage the delivery schedule and qualification process for all capital equipment and tooling ensuring alignment with the overall project schedule.
Develop procedures for the storage and handling of all tooling in the tool shop and be responsible for developing a tracability system to ensure appropriate tool revisions/modifications are controlled.
Be responsible for all equipment preventitive maintenance schedules
Key Skills and Experience
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar
10+ years experience working as a Tooling or Equipment Engineer with 5+ years experience managing a tool shop
Thorough understanding of machining processes and equipment, with a good understanding of high volume production tooling/equipment.
An understanding of primary and secondary soft goods processing equipment such as die-cut, stitching, bonding, laser, emboss and heat bonding equipment is desirable.
Demonstrated experience in tool and fixture design for high volume hardware products with challenging tolerance and cosmetic requirements.
Demonstrated DFM experience and proven track record of innovative tooling solutions for high volume consumer electronic products
Experience working with a wide range of materials is a must, particularly plastics and alloys. A good understanding of secondary finishing processes such as grinding, polishing, coatings is also required.
Proficient in 3D CAD packages such as Pro E or Solidworks.
Demonstrated problem solving skills and a proven record of tooling and equipment supplier management
Familiar with industry leading test and inspection equipment
Fluent in Mandarin & English
