Key Areas of Responsibilities:
General
It is the aim of the job to support the BU Purchasing and the Commodity manager from Concept Start onwards. To maintain and keep up-to-date the knowledge of the total Bill of Material (BOM), and the total cost for all products and/or modules under development. This is the enabler for the monthly results, the RoFo update and AOP. This is also the enabler for all decision-making based on “should cost” in the project teams.
Product Costing and Strategic cost management
The Product Cost Engineer function is typically dealing with all aspects of costing, from pre calculating what a supplier component and/or product should cost to finalizing the total cost ownership (TCO) of a product. It is spanning the product costing, from BOM and added value cost. It involves several skills like:
·Accurately questioning what efforts are involved and putting cost to it (Should Cost modeling) and compare these to benchmarks (competition, other Healthcare Businesses)
·Focus on providing cost alternatives for a product by value stream mapping , drive VE activities at supplier
·Provide cost estimates in support of purchase negotiations, target setting and product cost forecasts
·Propose alternative solutions to optimize product design and manufacturing technological choices to minimize cost and investment
·Drive product cost workshops – new products
·Generate should-cost templates for technology families
·Industrial experience with labor intensive processes (estimation of added value)
·Industrial experience with mechanized processes and related toolings (pcb’s, plastics and metal specific parts) and Sourcing new technology innovation
·Take the lead role in yearly cost down target setting (i.e. CPR).
·Ability to set up decision calculations based on the factors that can be influenced by the decision.
·Target costing with new products (total cost)
·Last but not least, the communication skills to organize the (international) teamwork needed to arrive at the results needed and to “sell” the results to the relevant customers.
