Job Summary
Coordination and installation of IT servers. Design, build, optimize and maintain servers
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
·Maintains availability of system including assisting installation at plant sites, providing support to current users, monitoring the system and troubleshooting issues.
- Participates in a 24/7 on-call support rotation
- Defining pre-defined hardware configurations
- Serves as an interface to the. Application development teams for troubleshooting potential hardware problems.
- May rapidly deploy fixes to servers and. Workstations in response to a newly identified stability or security threat of hardware and software.
- Provides advanced diagnoses of problem issues to reduce Mean Time to Isolation (MTTI) and Mean Time to Resolution (MTTR).
- Ensures Business Continuity by effectively managing systems and process Recovery Time Objective (RTO) and Recovery Point Objective (RPO).
- Defines and Identifies Metrics
- Adheres to all documented actions, practices, procedures and processes.
- Drives licensing and compliancy requirements definition.
- Confers with management, aid in defining the bounds and aims of system implementations, and provide management with status and progress reports.
- Achieves identified metric goals
- Designs, operates, and maintains the infrastructure
- Produces system designs.
- Analyzes existing system procedures for efficiency and effectiveness.
- Mentors team members
- Works under limited direction with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment
- Has familiarity with Clustering Services / High availability systems.
- Understands at least one database management system to include bundled tools and processes for administering it.
- Defines Active Directory design, group policies, and Domain maintenance.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Must have Bachelors Degree
- Minimum of 4 years of IT experience
- Advanced performance-tuning skills, such as calculating iops
- As a whole, the Systems Engineer is responsible for all servers, server-side software, and infrastructure equipment. This includes among other things infrastructure planning, system monitoring, contingency planning, business continuity, security,, performance tuning, software' distribution, connectivity and' production support.
- Leveraging automation tools and scripting languages to implement defined processes.
- Participating in a 24/7 on-call support rotation.
- Implementing security and systems hardening criteria.
- Must be able to leverage a thorough understanding of the interactions between systems to not only troubleshoot problem, but also identify performance-tuning opportunities.
- Experience with thin-client technologies, Terminal Services, Citrix Metaframe.
- Hands-on Experience with backup software sucha as BrightStor or ARCserve.
- Experience with antivirus programs, spam filters and web monitoring.
- Excellent verbal and written skills.
- Experience with Storage Area Networks and related concepts.
