Director - Biophotonics, Global Research and Technology Development

Summary:
Principal Engineer / Scientist with a strong medical imaging background who will support internal, external, and/or collaborative research and technology development efforts. This position is critical to the long term success . Significant activities for this job include: conducting applied research in the area of Biophotonics and Imaging, providing guidance in the development of long term technology strategies, identifying potential research partners, initiating research projects with those partners and help managing the research projects to successful completion.

Duties and Responsibilities:
--Initiate investigations into new applications and oversee technology development from research to product.

--Complete early stage research and proof of concept work to establish technical and business feasibility.
--Collaborate with industrial and academic partners to identify, advance and implement new technologies.
--Identify both internal and external approaches and project plans for developing the technology
--Compile, organize, and interpret technical data.
--Develop customer requirements and product specifications.
--Support personnel in authoring research papers for internal review and publication.
--Support and refine global technology strategic direction in the medical imaging area for the business.
--Participate in assessment of technology, IP, and business landscape.
--Coach, motivate, and foster development of junior technical staff.
--Coordinate, manage state of art searches, patent disclosures and participate in patent portfolio decisions

Job Qualification:
Education:
PhD with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience; or MS with a minimum of 8 years relevant experience; or BS with a minimum of 10 years relevant experience required. A minimum of 2 years Med Device/Pharma experience preferred. Education in Engineering, Scientific or Technical discipline required. Engineering or Scientific degree at Masters level or above required. Prefer combination of academic and industrial research experience. Technical fields of interest include Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or related field.
Experience:
--8+ years research and development experience in the medical imaging field.
--Solid background in medical image processing (2D, 3D), pattern recognition, rendering and display applications

--Working knowledge of DICOM protocols and integration with PACS.
--Well versed in image registration, segmentation, and classification techniques.
--Software experience in C# or C++, Open CV, Matlab prototyping, and ITK/VTK.
--Knowledge of imaging hardware.
--Experience in computer vision based metrology.
--Solid foundation in mathematics and physics.
--Experience in DOE, statistical techniques, and Minitab.
--Project leadership skills.
--Experience in writing technical reports and creating engineering drawings.
--Experience in presenting papers at academic conferences.
--Working knowledge of display technology.
--Ability to work with and manage multiple vendors.
--Ability to work both independently and with cross-functional teams.
--Excellent communication skills.
--Excellent verbal and written communication.
Skills/Qualifications:
--Experience with image processing for Xray, MR, CT and PET images.
--Familiarity with developing video post-processing algorithms and compression techniques. Experience in correcting for motion blur and image aberrations.

--Experience in image guided surgery.
--Background in applied optics.
--Experience in product development cycles from concept through production.
--Strong understanding of design for manufacturability and reliability.
Skills/Competencies:
--Ability to understand and contribute to decision making on technology and research opportunities.
--Ability to present technical information to both technical and non technical personnel effectively
