Senior Tooling Engineer

Responsibilities

1. Lead our supply base partners in the design and development of world-class tooling and manufacturing processes for new development projects with demanding geometric and cosmetic requirements.

2. Influence the tool design and manage the fabrication schedule, along with the process development and tooling qualification with our CM’s.

3. Collaborate with the product development teamon material selection, part design and manufacturing feasibility, along with the cosmetic requirements of new parts and tool designs

4. Serve as a tooling and process expert by leveraging a thorough understanding of the properties of various mold-making materials and tool component fabrication techniques

5. Investigate and implement industry best practices in tool design and fabrication, across a range of material and process requirements including plastic molding, metal part fabrication and secondary decorative and finishing processes.

6. Take a leading role in driving improved process controls, increased productivity, improved quality of mechanical parts and best tooling techniques with our supply base partners.

7. Participate in the product development process by completing Design for Manufacturing (DFM) analysis through design recommendations to mitigate tooling, molding and manufacturing risk before tooling kick-off.

8. Evaluate tooling requirements for new projects, review supplier capabilities, and influence supplier selection based on supplier capability, cost targets, and part quality requirements and complexity.

9. Provide piece part and tooling cost estimates for new development project budgets.

10. Drive supplier to deliver mechanical parts to meet build schedule, quality requirement and yield target.

11. Research materials and tooling technologies to deliver on product expectations/requirements.

12. Manage tooling budget and schedule to meet program overall goal.

13. Sign off responsibility on new tooling and manufacturing process readiness for volume production.

14. Drive continuous improvements to optimize yields and process capabilities to meet business needs and cost goals.

15. Troubleshoot and quickly remedy urgent engineering issues

16. Based in Shenzhen/Foshan area with travel in China frequently.

 

Education & Experience

1. BS/BA degree in Mechanical, Industrial Engineering. Expertise n Mechanical Engineering, Tooling or similar

2. 10+ years experiences in a Tooling Engineering role with 5+ years experiences as a Senior Tooling Engineer

3. Thorough understanding of injection molding equipment, parameters, processes and controls, including two shot and insert molding

4. Demonstrated experience in injection mold tool design for high volume consumer electronics with challenging tolerance and cosmetic requirements

5. Domonstrated DFM experience and proven track record of innovative tooling solutions for high volume consumer electronic product

6. Excellent plastics materials and secondary process manufacturing knowledge such as machining, coatings and sub-assembly

7. Proficient in 3D CAD packages such as Pro E or Solidworks, and mold flow analysis software packages

8. Demonstrated problem solving skills and a proven record of tooling supplier management

9. Familiar with industry leading test and inspection equipment.
