What you’ll learn & achieve: 

Reporting to the VP, Global Business Services, the Global Payroll & Sales Incentive Program Leader will be responsible for defining an overall strategy and vision for UL’s global Payroll & Sales Incentive Program (SIP) functions with a strong bias to leverage technology, standard processes and insightful reporting & analytics.  As part of the day-to-day accountabilities, the role will have responsibility for planning, managing and executing all aspects of the global Payroll & SIP functions, with an eye towards process improvement and quality control.  UL’s annual payroll and SIP expense is app. $1B USD.

 

In addition, the role will be responsible for leading a multi-year project to consolidate UL’s current 40+ payroll systems/providers to a new global operating model supported by a core group of global/regional providers and establish a new internal global payroll support team.  This will require harmonizing global payroll processes, developing new employee support models as well as managing global payroll vendors, SOX and other regulatory requirements as legal entities are transitioned to the new model.

What you will do:

Overall:

  • As the Global Process Owner, define and execute the overall strategy for the Global Payroll & Sales Incentive Program. Drive continuous improvement in service delivery to our colleagues.

 

Payroll:

  • Plan, manage and execute day to day payroll, with direct managerial oversight for payroll functions
  • Define and implement efficient processes to ensure timely and accurate payroll results
  • Provide subject matter expertise to support system integration and configuration requirements
  • Develop, implement and maintain key policies and procedures for global Serve as the global process owner for payroll and provide leadership across the company in optimizing our processes and systems.
  • Maintain appropriate system and process controls to protect the integrity of payroll and people related data
  • Ensures payroll processes are administered in compliance with SOX requirement, internal company policies as well as applicable country, federal and state regulations or legislation, including applicable wage and hour regulations.
  • Build, coach and mentor a global payroll team to facilitate an environment of best in class payroll services and continuous improvement.
  • Manages the vendor relationships for payroll worldwide, including SLA management, issue resolution and billings.
  • Ensures compliance with Data Privacy and Protection Guidelines
  • Manage payroll implementation activities in connection with mergers and acquisitions
  • Provides support for ad hoc projects and reports as needed

 

Sales Incentive Program:

  • Management of global sales metrics, global sales Incentive Plans, global sales reporting, global bookings budgeting and respective ad-hoc reporting / user training.
  • Responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining global sales related metrics and systems to measure sales team’s performance.
  • Responsible for developing and calculating global sales incentive plans and respective pay outs.
  • Responsible for reporting monthly global sales performance numbers and ad-hoc reporting activity for sales managers and sales persons in the field.
  • Manages documentation of sales responsibilities in corporate systems and setting up personal sales goals together with sales management.
  • Facilitates training activity to assist managers and individual contributors in the Commercial Organization to understand and effectively use reporting tools.
  • Manages the performance of direct reports by defining accountabilities, establishing performance objectives, providing feedback and guidance, and ensuring that all
  • policies are understood and adhered to.
  • Performs other duties as directe

What makes you a great fit: 

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field
  • 12+ years of Payroll & SIP management experience with preference for global payroll & SIP. Payroll and SIP industry certifications preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable country-specific, federal, state and local laws and broad knowledge of global compliance needs.
  • Strong technical knowledge with hands-on experience managing payroll and sales incentive systems development and configuration
  • Detailed knowledge working with sales management systems and sales incentive plans
  • Experience with multinational payroll practices
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze financial and sales performance data and calculate the
  • financial impact on sales opportunity
  • Ability to consult functional and sales management leaders on sales incentive payment activities
  • Self-starter/high initiative to proactively identify opportunities and take the initiative to find solutions
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with employees at all levels of the organization and work effectively as a member of cross functional teams
  • Must be very detail oriented and possess excellent data assessment and analytical skills
  • Multitasking: able to adapt to changing priorities, meet deadlines and manage priorities in a fast-paced work environment
  • Ability to maintain highly confidential information in a professional manner
  • Strong project management skill set. Project Management Certification preferred
  • Strong continuous improvement skill set.  Six Sigma Certification preferred. 
  • Active engagement in Payroll and SIP industry organizations to stay current with leading practices, technologies and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to travel globally 20% although could be higher during the global payroll project.
