ODM Engineer – Product Quality/Cost Senior Engineer

We are seeking a highly-motivated mechanical/quality senior engineer focused on results to lead global product quality engineering, continuous product improvement, and cost improvement initiatives, working closely with the Design, Product Development, Quality teams and suppliers in the U.S and China. This person will be involved in all stages of product development to assure Bravo products are developed, manufactured, and tested to comply with all applicable regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

• Serve as Bravo’s product quality advocate at our factories.
• Implement verifiable incoming goods inspection programs at factories for certain critical-component items from their sub-suppliers.
• Drive quality planning in the early stages of product design and development to minimize the impact of unforeseen safety, quality and reliability issues.
• Participate in design reviews to provide quality input with particular focus to consumer touch points.
• Works closely in the development of new products to ensure that all applicable compliance requirements (industry standards, safety, regulatory, reliability, and customer’s performance requirements) for the program are defined and met.
• Provide input to China project team factories to plan and develop the manufacturing process to realize the design intent of the program.
• Ensure that critical product characteristics (form, fit, function, safety) are identified on specifications for design qualification and process control.
• Lead the development and execution of the design validation testing for qualification prior to launch /commercialization approval.
• Assist project team in resolving product test failures.
• Collaborate with China Quality team to continuously establish reliability requirements, quality protocols and inspection criteria and specifications.
• Facilitate studies with project team to mitigate potential failures in the design and assembly process.
• Brainstorm with project team to identify mistake-proofing opportunities in the design and in the assembly process.
• Participate in sample development and sample reviews to ensure objectives and success criteria are defined.
• Lead the identification and execution of cost reduction opportunity projects. Improve products by studying customer, and industry requirements, researching and testing materials.
• Coordinate with Consumer Service and China Quality teams to collect, analyze, and summarize product quality concerns, issues and trends, and develop solutions to continuously improve product quality. Lead the identification and prioritization of existing product quality concerns and issues.
• Leads problem solving efforts for current product, design, and business issue resolution.
• Assist Sales in communications with customers to resolve issues.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE DESIRED:

· Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, materials or industrial engineering is required.

· Fluent English verbal and written skills required.

· Minimum 5+ years quality engineering experience with a hard goods consumer products company.

· Use of Quality Engineering methods in product inspection.

· Solid knowledge of the product development cycle, including quality testing.

· Working knowledge of the ASTM and EN71 toy standards and experience working with US independent product testing laboratories is strongly desired.

· Experience with a formal internal quality systems SPC, Toyota Quality Systems, 5S, Lean, etc.

· Proficient in Microsoft suite and 3D CAD design software.

· Experience working with China factories is required.

· Experience with developing/documenting procedures.

• This is a hands-on role, not an administrative role.
