General Position Summary

The Officer, Compliance is responsible for understanding all the requirements related to social compliance and ensures that factories are trained and have the appropriate internal documents to be able to pass all audits and documentation requirements. The Officer conducts ethical sourcing, Good Manufacturing Process (GMP), and CTPAT reviews at assigned factories, highlights violations, develops plans to resolve those violations, and works with the factory on implementing solutions to address any deficiencies.

• Completes initial validation audits at new factories to determine their current compliance standing.
• Completes ongoing factory reviews to identify compliance violations, determine root causes for the violations, and works with the factory to complete a Corrective Action Plan to address those violations.
• Works alongside factory personnel to make changes to the factory’s internal systems to address Corrective Action items. Trains factory personnel in proper procedures and document completion and retention.
• Trains factory on implementing System-wide processes and forms to address deficiencies in any factory management process.
• Notifies Sr. Management immediately when Zero Tolerance or Critical violations are discovered in a factory that could seriously affect FLTR’s relationship with its Customers or business operations.
• Fully understands the social compliance audit processes and can work with factories to help train and guide the factories towards successful completion of customer audits (Ethical Sourcing [ES] / Social Accountability [SA]).
• Understand US Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT) requirements and how to train and guide factories to be in full compliance with all regulations (Global Security Verification [GSV] / CTPAT).
• Understands the overall manufacturing process and can guide factories and Whalen QA personnel in maintaining the factory quality system and its associated procedures, process, documentation, and reports (Factory Capability and Capacity [FCCA] / Good Manufacturing Practices [GMP]).
• Understands the customer audit protocols and how factories need to meet these requirements.
• Completes ongoing training classes to keep up to date on all the current standards related to social and product compliance.
• Maintains 24 hour turn around response time for overseas communications.
• Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) or equivalent from four-year college or university, or more than three years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
• 3+ years of experience in social compliance, specifically focused on the US national retail chain social compliance audits.
• Must have the ability to travel extensively and to work in factories for extended periods of time.
• Must be detail oriented and able to work under pressure and with constant deadlines.
• Analytical Skills – ability to read and interpret compliance data to identify requirements and potential liabilities.
• Communication Skills – strong ability to communicate professionally, both orally and in writing, to help communicate requirements effectively with Customers, Suppliers, and Team members.
• General Knowledge of factory production processes

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Education & Abilities Language Skills

The Officer must have the ability to read and interpret technical documents, compliance standards, compliance results, corrective action plans, and other such documentation in both English and Simplified Chinese. The Officer must possess the ability to read and write in Mandarin Chinese and read, write, and speak conversational English, including technical terminology related to social and product compliance.

Reasoning Ability

The Officer must possess the ability to define problems, collect data, complete root cause analysis, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. The Officer must possess the ability to interpret audit results and determine the appropriate course of action a factory must take to address any violations.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

SA8000 Certification is preferred.

Work Environment

This position is performed at the factory location and requires the Officer to work under various conditions within the factory setting, from office environment to production floor. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The Officer is encouraged to use Personal Protective Equipment when on the production floor at factories.
