The teaching assistant will be directly responsible to the Principal and designated TA Coordinator and will work under the guidance of the teacher to whom they are assigned.

    

Teaching assistant are expected:

v To carry out the policies and regulations of the school

v To provide for the care and protection of school property

v To participate in creating a positive climate among colleagues

v To participate actively in creating a good climate of public relations in the school

v To maintain cordial and workable relationships with all colleagues

v To perform all duties assigned by the administration

v To assist the teacher in individualizing instruction by coaching a child or small group of children

v To carryout clerical tasks as needed or assigned by the teacher

v To supervise children on the playground before school, after school, during recess, or at lunch time

v To accompany and supervise children on bus journeys to and from school

v To uphold and maintain the standards of discipline defined by the teacher

Specific roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:    

• Translating to/for parents
• Dropping off and picking up students at Specials
• Assisting students during lunch
• Running errands and making copies
• Helping students pack up and making sure classroom and student cubbies are in proper order
• Assisting students in classroom activities and during field trips
• Decorating bulletin boards and classroom spaces
• Preparing teaching materials
• Taking students to the nurse as needed
• Assisting with academic teaching if needed
• Helping new students to adjust in class
