Job Description:
Prior experience working with manufacturers in wood and metal for retailers is preferred. Quality ensure that products meet standards of quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities:
? Quality engineers work at monitoring, testing, and inspecting products to make sure they meet specified standards. Quality engineers test products to determine how long they will last, what part may break down first and how to improve product durability. They inspect product materials, mechanics and electrical systems work. The quality engineer also designs systems by which production quality can be checked in an ongoing process. In addition, quality engineers typically work with the production team to implement any new testing criteria or assembly methods they may have developed.
? Materials quality engineers verify product dimensions, color, texture and strength and locate imperfections. Quality engineers may work in laboratory settings running tests and duplicating real-world conditions. They use tools such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, volt meters, ammeters, and ohmmeters, as well as electronic inspection equipment like coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), to aid them in their
? Quality engineers ensure that Quality control inspectors make sure that everything from raw materials to finished products meets quality and safety standards specified in the purchasing documentation. All production processes, whether large or small, require elements of quality control and all inspection and testing is carried out to specified requirements that have been agreed between the purchaser and the supplier.
? Quality Engineers ensure that Quality control inspectors normally work in a shop floor, workshop or office. They visit the factory floor to take samples of products and inspect production, and to discuss problems with colleagues.
? They also inspect products purchased by their company from suppliers and maintain records of supplier performance. This data is important in helping suppliers to improve their performance and for making decisions regarding which suppliers can be relied on to meet specified requirements,
? QW’s verify QC records of all the tests they have carried out. They use charts and statistics to analyze their results. They then write and present a report to show their findings.
? They may be responsible for declaring that a product is not safe or is not of the specified quality.
? If there is a problem, quality engineers meet with production staff to work out the root cause of the problem and to decide whether current processes need to be changed. They might make recommendations for improvement.
Personal skills
? QE’s should have a logical, methodical approach to your work and you must be accurate when taking measurements and recording figures.
? QE’s need good number skills, for example, in order to measure and weigh samples, or perhaps to understand and use statistics as well as systems skills.
? Depending on the area in which you work, QE’s may also need the ability to use technical equipment, for example, microscopes and automated testing machines.
? QE’s will need tact and discretion to point out problems to production workers. Good communication skills are important to motivate others to improve the quality of their work, as well as to explain your findings clearly. Good report writing skills are also useful.
 JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education:

Requires a two year college in Engineering, Quality, or Math.
Certification courses in Quality Assurance.
Must have an understanding of Statistical Process Control.
 

Experience:
? At least 5 years of relevant experience
? General understanding of metal job shop operations, experience in wood and metal shop fabrication a plus
? Strong understanding of quality parameters
? Understanding of manufacturing environment

Skills and Abilities:
? Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
? Good written and verbal communication skills
? Excellent attention to detail
? Demonstrate the ability to anticipate and solve problems, possess a highly proactive approach to problem solving
? Must be able to multi task effectively
? Ability to work in a team environment and provide training as required
? Analysis of findings and trends
? Must have computer skills
