Job Description
As part of a dynamic team, the Acoustic DSP Tuning Engineer will be responsible for productization, tuning and support of Synaptics’ Noise Cancellation and Noise suppression audio algorithms within digital headsets and Hearables.
Synaptics has been at the forefront of developing state of the art noise cancelling and voice processing algorithms that have enabled digital headsets to achieve high fidelity, noise free and crystal clear voice communication on a variety of consumer products.
We are looking for an individual with a strong background in digital signal processing and experience in how such processing is implemented in headset/hearable products. A proven track record in evaluating and tuning algorithms for active noise cancellation, noise suppression and voice/speech processing, either through academic work or industry work is required. In this position you will be working with both system applications engineers and algorithm developers to develop collateral in support of applications engineers and customers. This individual will also provide feedback to the R&D team for future product requirements. The successful candidate would be willing to travel up to 30% of the time.
Responsibilities
? Productization, tuning and support of Active Noise Cancellation and Noise Suppression algorithms within Headphones and Hearables.
? Draft Acoustic Integration and tuning guidelines.
? Advise and guide ODMs on product integration, acoustic design, algorithm tuning and factory line calibration.
? Manage multiple customer engagements at any given time.
? Design/implement demo platforms which demonstrate company features.
? Benchmarking of Synaptics audio features/products vs competing solutions.
? Establish/contribute to processes which reduce risks of customer audio/acoustic system integrations and improve efficiencies/effectiveness of existing processes.
? Train Synaptics's FAEs and sales teams on demos and best practices with respect to acoustic/audio implementations.
? Design Verification and troubleshooting in the lab.

Skills and Qualifications Required
? 5+ years relevant experience in audio signal processing in highly integrated portable devices, headsets, headphones, or mobile phones.
? Excellent grasp of ANC, Noise suppression, echo cancellation, and adaptive signal processing filter theory.
? Experience in manufacturing test development, quality control, and acoustic calibration.
? Deep understanding of Acoustic design of headsets and Headphones.
? Acoustic knowledge of receivers, loudspeakers, microphones and headsets.
? Proven Knowledge of the factors that contribute to excellent perceived audio performance.
? Experience with audio/acoustic system integration and optimization.
? Experience tuning audio DSP features.
? Experienced with audio analyzers and test equipment (e.g. Listen SoundCheck, Audio Precision, GRAS, B&K, Head Acoustics, etc.).
? Experience automating audio tests through programming skills in Matlab, C and other scripting languages.
? Familiarity with international standards such as IEC, ITU-T, IEEE, ISO, AES, 3GPP, etc.
? Acoustic enclosure modeling expertise (microphones and speakers).
? Familiarity with 3D CAD modeling software such as Solidworks or PTC Creo.
? Acoustic test equipment software development.
? Excellent hearing and subjective listening abilities.
? MS in Audio Signal Processing.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
? PHD in Audio Signal Processing
? Proven track record of developing Active Noise Cancelling headphones.
? Solid knowledge in electronics testing and troubleshooting
