We are looking for an Application Engineer for our customer Adhesives Research, Inc. (AR) is a leading independent developer and manufacturer of pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs), polymers, tapes, films, coatings, laminates, release liners and drug delivery systems.http://www.adhesivesresearch.com/
Job Summary:
Provides technical service to customers of assigned businesses by assisting in resolving their technical problems as it relates to using AR’s products and technologies and also interfaces with other functions to assist with complaint resolution, process improvements, and minor product development.
Essential Functions:
Directs technical service programs for product recommendations, field trials of new and/or existing products, customer support of complaint and/or non-conforming materials and product/process improvement of current products. Develop product constructions and processes, including all experimentation/evaluation and specifications assembly. Conducts experiments on lab scale and assists production scale.
Prepares test samples and conduct tests on chemicals and/or materials as required to support technical service issues. Develops new tests as necessary. Analyzes technical data from both experiments and property testing to draw conclusions. Documents project work in lab notebooks, issues reports, and maintains files on projects. Dialogues with customer in resolving technical related issues.
Assists with problem solving, materials knowledge, formulation, lab experiments, production experiments, testing, data analysis, and report writing.
Consults with supervisor, business managers, and group leaders on group priorities and strategies. Participates in business planning process with one or more businesses as appropriate. Establishes program priorities, objectives and responsibilities for group. Audits activities and communicates progress.
Travels as needed to customer/converter sites to ensure complete understanding of applications and issues.
Interface with customers on new product applications.
Works closely with Customer Service Department to provide solutions to customer inquiries and complaints. Trains customer service representatives and inside sales as needed in product lines and applications.
Makes identifiable and substantial contributions to continuous improvement. Performs all duties consistent with established AR guidelines consistent with ISO-9001 and those elements of GMP deemed necessary to support our business (as outlined in the Quality Manual). Actively complies with and endorses Department and Company objectives.
Supports as needed industry events, conferences, trade shows, and associations, providing technical representation for AR.
Participate in regular Conference calls in the evening with AR associates from other regions.
Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Job Specifications:
BS degree (or higher) in chemistry, chemical engineering, polymer science or materials science
Demonstrated ability to solve technical problems
Aptitude for making consultative sales
Must communicate fluently in English
Ability to maintain confidentiality of AR information
Excellent oral & written communication skills
Proficient in making presentations, technical writing and working with spreadsheets
Excellent interpersonal skills
Requires an aptitude to use sensitive test equipment
Knowledge of computers & related word processing, spreadsheet & e-mail software – Microsoft preferred
