Job description
IBM Greater China Systems and Technology Laboratory (CSTL), the only IBM Systems and Technology Group (STG) development lab in China, was established in 2004. CSTL has been involved in the development and research of all key products of STG. In addition to the independent development of System x server and Chip Set in hardware area, we have also contributed in software development including operating system, firmware, cross platform system management, storage system software, High Performance Computing and IBM middleware that are integrated in operating system. We have also worked on IBM p server, i server, mainframe z server, blade center system, various disk array products, and fiber network storage product. After the phenomenal growth in recent years, we now have more than 1500 engineers in Beijing, Shanghai, Taipei, Wuxi and Xi'an laboratories.
Job Description
The person in this position shall be responsible for providing day-to-day technical support to internal infrastructure and applications. Linux/UNIX/script skills, virtualization and system monitor skills are essential.
Main responsibilities
As Infrastructure Specialist, he/she will help Lab to setup Dev/QA working environment, responsible for hardware/software installation and maintenance, monitor all system to ensure all working smoothly;
Maintaining Windows/Linux/Unix computing environment and conducting troubleshooting;
Document the current setups, the new changes for the assigned responsible areas;
Resolving urgent technical issues without escalation;
Rapidly and effectively responding to user requests, providing updates to the users in a timely manner and actively collecting user feedbacks;
Help test and deploy new tools and methods to improve work efficiency;
Follow the change control process when conducting system upgrades, audit and maintenance;
Follow various IT policies, procedures and corporate standards;
Work flexible hours, and available for after hours support if necessary;
Qualification
Degree in engineering or computer science;
Fluent in both oral and written English;
Have more than 5 years experience with operating and maintaining large Linux/Unix environment;
Need to be strong on Linux/Solaris operating systems and be able to analyze and correct faults impacted on OS level;
Knowledge and experience in LAN, WAN, VPN, firewall and wireless technology in a primarily Cisco environment;
Knowledge and experience in computer hardware;
Good knowledge of TCP/IP network applications and protocols with some hands-on experiences (such as DNS, LDAP, Auto FS, SSH, NFS, FTP, SMB, CIFS, POP and IMAP etc.);
Strong analytical and problem solving skills;
Mature, responsive and enjoys interacting with others;
Team player who enjoys working with other and can work independently;
Well-developed communication skills - oral, written and listening,ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel within the company;
Have great attitude and highly customer service focused.
