Job Description Summary

1. Procurement Link in Manufacturing Center, executes cost down and new product introduction project.

2. Drives concept savings in new product development in close cooperation with R&D, Marketing, Quality, SCM and development. Represents procurement in a development center and ensures early supplier involvement. Participates in DfX conventions for the assigned business.

3. Provides should-cost assessments for newly proposed products. Drives request for quotation process based on the Forward Procurement List.

4. Drives the Supplier Selection Process together with the Commodity Teams.

5. Supports the Supplier Quality Manager in new supplier component release process as part of the Advanced Quality Plan (AQP), including compliance and sustainability aspects.

6. Aligns needs with competitive landscape and technology roadmaps. Provides input for make or buy analysis. Supports the in/outsourcing process (e.g. knowledge transfer, supplier ramp-up).

7. Provides input to the Commodity Teams regarding the supply base characteristics based on business requirements. Orders tools and samples related to new product development.

8. Executes and supports phase in – phase Out (PIPO) planning related to new product introduction.

9. Identifies opportunities in the new product design process through target costing, and managing cost drivers and data sources to improve the design decision making.

10. Supports price negotiations with fact-based information and opportunities to drive short and/or long term product cost reduction improvement.

11. Supports the deployment of early supplier involvement through target costing and tracking for assigned product.

12. Owns the delivering of cost elements for assigned product, as required improving total cost of ownership for the cost roadmaps for key products.

13. Leads the development of an effective set of cost models to track “target cost” status for assigned product. Analyzes cost trends, develop and review cost forecasts.

14. Maintains updates to the cost drivers for assigned product and ensure that information is available as required.

Your team

Philips has a highly international workforce in more than 100 countries. You will be part of the Philips Procurement team working for Personal Health.

The Procurement Engineer will be part of a small international and dedicated team. You will be based in Zhuhai, Guangdong. You will report directly to the Procurement Engineering Business Partner. You will work closely with colleagues in marketing, innovation and commodity management.

Your responsibilities

1. As a Procurement Engineer you represent procurement in product creation projects. You organize early supplier involvement with a DfX mindset and you make use of approaches like co-design or cost-reduction workshops. Next to this, you prepare Request for Quotations and project contracts including specifications and project requirements with suppliers. You ensure procurement related risks (cost, quality and availability) are controlled and mitigated, by bringing the relevant procurement colleagues in to the equation.

2. Another important responsibility is driving cost downs activities. You identify strategic cost reduction opportunities for products in the portfolio and for products in development. In new product development you drive savings in close cooperation with Marketing, Quality, Supply Chain Management, Development & Commodity Management. In this way you deliver a significant contribution to business cases and product roadmaps. To enable this, you understand cost drivers and the power of standardization.

3. Last but not least, you participate and drive DfX projects supporting business decisions in a convention based forum.

We are looking for

1. Education: Bachelor degree or above, major in technical/Engineering discipline; Master degree is preferred

2. Work experience: at least 8yrs work experience, with at least 3-6yrs professional experience in procurement related functions; experience in Automotive, Consumer electronics, mobile phone manufacture in MNCs is preferred. Has experience in DfX, Value Engineering;

3. Competencies and skills:

• Experience in New Product Introduction Process;
• Expert in initiating and driving cost down projects;
• Expert user of regarding costing toolset (Should Costing, NPV, TCO) in projects;
• A team player who is both proactive and cooperative; easily gains trust and support of peers; encourages collaboration and challenges constructively;
• Can think strategically and is at the same time hands-on. Delivers results;
• Understands and is able to challenge blue prints and specifications;
• Experience in international and multidisciplinary project teams is preferred;
• Good language skills both Chinese and English in written and spoken is a must.
• Prepared to travel up to 10% of the time.
