Job Title Materials Assistant Manager
Department Material Team

Report to Material Manager
Job Summary This position assists in managing TOMS Material team in conjunction with our strategic business partners to ensure on-time delivery, quality, and cost Footwear materials. The candidate is skilled in but not limited to textile, synthetic, leather, lab testing protocols, vendor scorecards, with understanding and adherence of a product development calendars, and other attributes as described in this document to effectively execute and support the overall global sourcing strategy.
Essential Functions Assist in optimizing and developing as needed best practices across all footwear material types and collaborates with the US material and design teams to achieve target goals for product needs.
? Communicate with the US Material Team, Footwear Product Teams closely for seasonal new development direction, schedule and manage target cost are met for material selection.
? Validate, analyze, and provide solutions to material testing results and be active on material testing requirements. Actively listen to the inputs of others and summaries information, communicate with US team in time.
? Proactively communicates implementation plans to reduce product risk at a material level to all related parties.
? Ensures smooth transition of data product from development to production. Effectively conveys and receives ideas, information and direction.
? Travels both domestically and internationally as needed to review and resolve product development inquiries related to materials.
Assist in managing material vendors to achieve targeted performance, efficiency, cost, and quality to support TOMS products development.
? Participates in daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly performance management of all material vendors as well as participating in regular meetings with the US material team and if needed design teams.
? Evaluate material vendors, maintain, modify vendor scorecard for material vendors. Mediate the contradiction between the factories with material vendors ensure a positive supplier chain.
? Supports the global Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy by ensuring its implementation and maintenance with all material vendors.
Assist in leading the China Material Team to achieve best in class results and provide global material development support.
? Assist in but not limited to recruiting, attending trade shows, improving material vendor selections, and other operations essential to the success of the team.
? Builds and maintains a positive, collaborative relationship between other TOMS’ departments, external partners, and customers as needed.
? Supports global sourcing initiatives by implementing management initiatives and leading the material team to establish best governance practices, enhance material quality and costs, develop core processes and controls, improve delivery and reliability, and build overall operational capabilities.
? Pursues team goals and help others achieve their goals, disseminates own technical knowledge and skills to others.
Other Responsibilities.
? All other duties as assigned accordingly.
Essential Skills ? Advanced material components experience in development, commercialization, and or manufacture of footwear.
? Demonstrates initiative, provides complete follow-through on areas of responsibility to meet all timelines as agreed.
? Demonstrated leadership skills including professional/interpersonal communication skills and build enduring relationship with both local and oversea suppliers and partners.
? Ability to work in a lean, fast-paced/changing environment, highly collaborative, multi-national teams, and must be comfortable with and embrace consensus decision-making.
? Strong oral and written communication skills with other internal team members and external partners.
? Strong in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint etc.
? Fluent in English and Mandarin.
Qualifications ? Minimum of 5+ years of footwear-specific material sourcing or experience in other component related fields.
? B.A./B.S. degree in Engineering/Quantitative majors preferred.
Special Requirements ? Travel will be associated with this position on an as-needed basis and is estimated at 15% for both domestic and international
