Our client is a global market leader within high performance and high quality polymers that develops, manufactures and markets products for bonding, coating, sealing and damping for the automotive industry. The company with global headquarters in Europe has 25 production sites in 16 countries and more than 2,300 employees worldwide. The Asian headquarters are located in Hong Kong and the China headquarters are located in Shanghai. The company currently has four production units China in with around 200 employees and a turnover of around RMB 650 million. During 2013 the company will open up a sales office in Chengdu and the plan is to commence production by 2015.
Independent General Sales Manager within automotive industry wanted to European market leading company in Chengdu
The role/responsibility
The company is currently expanding its presence in China and is in need of an experienced General Sales Manager who can build up the sales of polymer products to automotive manufacturers in the area. As the General Sales Manager, you will have a strategic and operative role to set up and execute business plans and sales targets and you will have full profit/loss responsibility of the newly established local branch. The role entails building long-term relationships with local and global automotive manufacturers to expand the sales of the products and services. You are the key person within the whole sales process, from identifying potential customers, see opportunities and establish long-term relationships to making sales contracts, monitoring the delivery process and following up on existing customers. You will also be responsible for the overall management of the Chengdu branch including management of staff and overseeing finance.
Career development
During the first stage you will receive education about the products and technologies and you will work out the overall strategy and set the targets together with the General Manager for China in Shanghai. As sales volumes in your assigned area increases, you will also oversee the set up and running of simple manufacturing planned to commence by 2015.
Experiences and personal qualities
To be successful as a General Sales Manager you have to be an independent and social person who can easily spot business opportunities. The position requires at least five years sales management experience in the automotive industry and you should also have good understanding of how to manage the daily running of a company including P/L responsibility. You are familiar with long sales cycles and technically complex products. You need to have worked in a Western corporation and thereby have a good understanding of European business culture meanwhile have a deep understanding of the Chinese market. You are fluent in both Mandarin and English and know the automotive market well. Further you are experienced in project management and well familiar with technical sales. To master this role you also need to have good communication and leadership skills and have a technical background. As a person you are a social and independent relationship-builder who is smart, creative and flexible enough to see opportunities and solve problems. Additionally you are result-driven and should be able to meet targets within assigned timeframes.
