Purpose:
The Foundry Engineer will develop, monitor and coordinate production standards and methods for the effective utilization of resources and meeting the customer requirements. The Foundry Engineer will assist the Process Engineer in the development of systems and procedures for the reduction of product manufacturing cost, reduction of scrap, effective utilization of resources, product improvement, and the development and monitoring of efficiencies and standards to meet company goals.
Nature and Scope
Reduction of cost and improvement in efficiencies through development of systems, standards and procedures and monitoring of all manufacturing phases of products, will be an integral part of the Foundry Engineer function.
The Foundry Engineer will administer the casting sample procedure and input that data into the computer system. The Foundry Engineer will utilize various systems such as the L-15; Engineering and/or Process Change Request form. The Foundry Engineer will monitor and make recommendations for changes, improvements and repairs to patterns. He/she will inspect and analyze casting defects and make recommendations for corrective action. The Foundry Engineer will monitor the manufacturing process and provide feedback and recommendations to all production centers.
Principal Accountabilities
1.Initiate sample procedures and follow samples through the manufacturing process, working with team leaders and production staff to produce the sample with the least cost and highest quality.
2.Coordinate, monitor, and ensure proper administrative controls are completed accurately by the appropriate person on all samples.
3.Solidification modeling to ensure sound and defect free castings prior to sampling. Create 3D shapes in cad software package.
4.Initiate and complete production standards. Review through audits.
5.Design and review pattern layouts, rigging systems, core design, etc. in order to produce castings that meet or exceed customer specifications.
6.Review casting NDT results with NDT personnel to ensure proper interpretation and resolution to results.
7.Maintain knowledge and understanding of the developments and changes in foundry technology. Candidate will be responsible for trialing new product, process changes, etc.
Position Qualifications
The Foundry Engineer should have an 4 year Engineering degree in Metallurgy, Chemical, or Materials Science. A Technical School degree in an Engineering field or equivalent education and experience will be considered. The Foundry Engineer should be an effective communicator, both written and verbal. The position requires and individual that is able to affect change in a non-threatening manner. The incumbent must be willing to accept ideas and recommendations for any changes in operating procedures or processes. Candidate must be comfortable with working on computers. Experience with MAGMA solidification software is desirable.
