I. POSITION PURPOSE:
This position is located within the Design Cost Analysis team at AGCO's Changzhou China facility. Specifically, this position will calculate the costs of new parts and components based on manufacturing best practices. Additionally this position will act in an internal consulting capacity, advising the design teams on which design alternatives are most cost effective. This position will become the local expert on AGCO's product costing tools including aPriori and Procalc.




II. MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITY: KEY MEASUREMENT:
· Consult with product committees to establish NPI target costs · Target costs established before project commencement
· Track and report target cost achievement for NPI projects · Regular, accurate reporting & issues flagged in time
· Consult with purchasing to establish should cost
· Cost estimates available before RFQ issuance
· Perform cost analysis in support of make/ buy decisions
· Informed decisions taken in a timely fashion


III. FUNCTIONAL KNOWLEDGE:
Candidate must have in-depth knowledge of manufacturing methods and process work flows as they relate to product costing. Candidate must also have the ability to translate manufacturing processes and accounting definitions into VPE (Virtual Production Environment) requirements for use in the aPriori system. Experience in Visual Basic or XML programming preferred. General knowledge of product costing / accounting is required. Must be capable of carrying out VAVE and DTV activities, perform cost impact assessment for manufacturing processes and technologies and support competitive design cost analysis.




IV. BUSINESS EXPERTISE:
Candidate must have experience in mechanical product design and/or manufacturing environments. Experience in agricultural equipment, construction equipment, or automotive/ truck industries preferred.




V. LEADERSHIP/PEOPLE MANAGEMENT:
This position has no direct-line reports, however the candidate will interact and influence many functional areas including manufacturing, engineering, finance, and purchasing. Strong leadership and communications skills are required.




VI. PROBLEM SOLVING:
Candidate will be required to solve complex problems independently and with minimal supervision. Candidate must be detail oriented so as to verify that the VPE's accurately model the real-life manufacturing process and adhere to appropriate accounting practices.




VII. NATURE OF IMPACT
VPE creation is currently outsourced to aPriori. Intent is to build this skill set in-house, as a part of the Design Cost Analysis organization. Additionally, this position will champion a target-cost culture at the site.




VIII. AREA OF IMPACT:
The primary impact of this position is to provide a service to the engineering, manufacturing, purchasing and finance organizations within AGCO. The overall intent is to drive a cultural shift, where cost drivers are understood early in the design cycle. This position will interact with many functional areas including manufacturing, engineering, finance, and purchasing. The business intent of this position is to drive cost reduction and margin improvement.





IX. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
The job holder must be capable of direct (face to face) and indirect (Email, telephone etc ) communication with personnel within and outside of the company at all levels from shop floor staff to senior management. The job holder must be capable of expressing technical ideas, solutions and processes in English in spoken and written form. The job holder must be capable of working in and with different cultures and able to adapt easily. They must also be capable to manage team meetings and steer the team towards meaningful outcomes.




X. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE :


· Minimum of a Bachelor degree in Engineering or Applied Mathematics with Masters Degree considered a plus.

· Advanced Education degree preferred

Minimum of 3 years experience in design engineering and / or manufacturing engineering
Basic computer programming skills, including Visual Basic and XML
Experience in Pro-Engineer and aPriori desired
Strong understanding of product costing
Experience of working in overseas locations and on joint design activities
Ability to communicate in English Written and spoken
Effective personal time management skills
