Job Outline
The role of the Research Development Officer is to manage the Faculty Research Development team and support the wide range of research activities taken place in the Faculty of Science and Engineering, including PGR students management/training, summer research placement/RKE committee/scholarships, research grant/funding support, Faculty research funding schemes and other faculty research related matters.

? Educated to degree level, appropriate level of relevant experience in similar or relevant role
? Strong communication and interpersonal skills

? Good computer skill including MS suits
? Presentation skill
? Experience of overseas study or working in an international setting and/or education organisation
? Experience of developing and working with the external partners
? Understanding of the relevant professional, legal and regulatory requirements and code of conduct

? Able to identify and set priorities
? Able to work accurately and to deadlines are essential
Desirable
? Either in a relevant science and engineering subject or with experience of working and studying in a science and engineering environment
? Professional qualification in PGR/PGT recruitment and research development
? Project management skill
? Leadership skill
? Willingness to work over time if needed

Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. PGR students management/training

? Work with graduate school to complete the registration of new PGR students;
? Check and update PGR students seat assignment;
? Keep and update PGR students annual review records;
? Support PGR students daily work including reminding and monitoring annual review and the supervision form submission;
? Coordinate with Graduate School with PGR student issues including desktop procurement and viva arrangement;
? Prepare final year student viva arrangement including external examiners’ hotel and flight booking, visa issues, examination fee transfer and reimbursement, VC room booking;
? Work with the Faculty Director of RKE to develop and organise faculty PGR training programmes and activities;
2. Summer research placement/RKE committee/scholarships

? Work with the Faculty Director of RKE to develop and manage various faculty level funding schemes, including faculty research groups, young researchers grant, faculty conference grants, keep the accurate record of the applications;
? Work with the Faculty Director of RKE to develop the summer research placement scheme;
? Organise the regular Faculty RKE committee meetings, prepare the agenda and keep formal meeting minutes and ensure actions are taken in an effective and timely manner;
? Liaise with the Graduate School for the scholarships policy, work with the Faculty Director of RKE to develop the faculty scholarships allocation policy;
? Organise the regular faculty research seminars;

3. Research grant/funding support

? Support the development of new funding opportunities and proposals from all relevant funders to facilitate research and activities targeted towards the generation of impact arising from research;
? Develop systems, frameworks and processes to capture research activity and monitor statistics and performance; providing internal and external management reporting as required;
? Providing effective support and advice for the administration and timely delivery of research proposals;
? Lead the team to provide support for project management for major external research grants, including coordinating project interim reviews and project closure reviews;

     4. People Management

? Manage staff supporting the work of the Research and Development team and co-manage the wider team of the Faculty Office whenever required;
? Monitor and support the development of team members to ensure that individual contributions are maximised;
? Ensure work of team is carried out and performed to the required standard, taking necessary follow-up measures as required;
? Manage common staff welfare issues (e.g. disciplinary or other performance issues) that are covered by documented procedures, recognising when the matter should be referred to someone else or advice on how to respond obtained;
? Advise and gain the support of others (e.g. staff, contractors, external agents) in order to ensure the delivery of services/project objectives, where there is no line management responsibility.

     5. Others

? Proactively liaise with other offices/units to collect, collate and circulate relevant information as appropriate to ensure administrative deadlines are met;
? Participate in training and staff development, as trainer or trainee as appropriate, to develop and foster relevant expertise and awareness;
? Maintain a proactive and flexible approach to delivering work objectives and assisting other team members as and when appropriate;
? Any other duties appropriate to the grade and role of the post holder;
