POSITION SUMMARY

Purpose

Merchant Gases – Center of Excellence (COE) is looking to hire an Assiatant R&D Engineer to support R&D activities and commercial opportunities for Merchant Gases segments in Metal Processing, back-end electronics packaging and industrial cryogenics.


Nature and Scope

This position is primarily responsible for lab maintenance, daily operation, development and improvement of Merchant Gas-related equipments and technologies. Gas applications that will be investigated include metals processing, back-end electronics packaging and industrial cryogenics. The position will be based in Shanghai, as part of the Asia Technology team at Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park; required travel in support of customer trials is estimated at 20%.

The incumbent must be an experienced technician with strong engineering, mechanical and execution skills, preferably with a high degree of hands-on practical experience in high-temperature furnace or reactor operations. The individual will need to have a strong knowledge of PLC controls, data acquisition, sensor instrumentation and gas or cryogenic liquid handling equipment, along with understanding and ability to interpret mechanical and electrical engineering drawings.

In summary: The candidate will have a good mechanical engineering background with strong laboratory skills/experience, and also experience in instrumentation and process control. Position prefers Bachelor’s degree (but not a must) in Physical/Materials Science or Engineering, a minimum of 3~5 years experience working in R&D laboratory and/or manufacturing environment is required. A knowledge of metallography, metals processing, back-end electronics packaging, industrial cryogenics, and related applications is desirable. Knowledge and experience of laboratory safety is a must.


PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Setup and maintenance of Merchant Gases laboratories (从事实验室的日常操作及维护)
? Assist Merchant Gases R&D engineers in daily operations of laboratories. (辅助研发工程师从事日常实验室的运转)
? Order, receive, and inspect inventory materials, chemicals, and laboratory equipments. (订购、接收及检查材料、化学品及实验设备的库存)
? Perform lab instrument maintenance, calibration and validation. (从事实验仪器的维护及校验)
? Perform routine laboratory maintenance, ensuring the safety of laboratory operations and proper housekeeping. (从事实验室的日常维护，确保实验室运行的安全及适当的内务管理)
? Ensure proper usage/storage/dispose of any chemicals. (确保正确使用、储存及处理任何化学物品)

2. Perform laboratory testing and data recording (实验操作及数据记录)
? Involve conducting experimental work as directed by the project leader a (在项目主管指导下完成实验工作).
? Keep records of the data, and review data for accuracy and completeness (记录实验数据并确保实验数据的准确性及完整性).
? Involve analyzing data, including analyses, checks, tests, and evaluations (参与实验数据的分析, 包括分析、核对、检验和评估).

3. On-site support of university projects and customer trials (大学合作项目及客户试验的现场支持)
? Engage in on-site customer trials, which may include activities such as on-site equipment set up, sampling planning, and maintaining a customer database of trial results and product samples; (从事现场客户试验，包括：现场设备的安装、取样、客户试验结果及样品数据库的维护)
? Interact with GAD team to provide assistance in support of commercial activities. (为气体应用技术工程师提供设备及应用技术方面的支持)


JOB REQUIREMENTS

1. BS degree is preferred (but not required) with an engineering background, preferable in Physical/Materials Science or Engineering. (大学本科学历优先，但非必要条件。工程类背景，物理、材料科学及工程专业优先)
2. 3-5 years of R&D laboratory or industrial work experience (3~5年研发实验室或工业界经历).
3. Knowledge of lab safety is a must. (必须熟悉实验室的安全规范)

5. Good English and Chinese (verbal and written communication) language skills. (一定的中英文说写能力)
