Job Outline
Under the direction of the Access Services Officer, assists in all circulation, Enquiries Desk operations and physical space management.

To actively support a broad range of users wanting to access a variety of resources and services provided by Library, Research and Learning Resources.

Candidates must have a good grasp of English, have excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively as part of the team. The ideal candidates should be reliable and service oriented.

The candidates should be able to work rotating shifts, evening shift and weekend shift.

Qualifications
Essential
- Bachelor degree;
- Fluency in Chinese and English, both written and spoken;
- Good IT skills (confident with Microsoft Office applications, email and the web);
- Knowledge of library services, systems and procedures;
- Real commitment to customer service and positive approach to customer care;
- Excellent communication skills at all levels;
- Effective time management and organizational skills;
- Experience of being the first point of contact in a busy face to face service environment;
- Physically capable to handle large number of books, move book trolleys around the library and re-shelve library books;
- Ability to work well under pressure at a busy service point;
- Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team;
- Ability to work accurately and pay attention to detail;
- Ability to gain new skills quickly;
- Be able to work on evenings and weekends;

Desirable
- Major in Library and Information Science or other related disciplines;
- Knowledge of Library of Congress Classification (LCC) system;
- Good knowledge of electronic journals and bibliographic databases;
- Good knowledge of basic reference sources and techniques;
- Skills in project management;
- Experience of library/circulation service;
- Use of Aleph500 library management system or comparable system.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Enquiry Service (40%)
- Provide an enquiry service for a wide range of students and staff wanting to use Library, Research and Learning Resources. Have a good knowledge and understanding of library services and be able to answer a broad range of basic enquiries by phone, email and face to face. Offer help and advice in a friendly and efficient way. Respond to customer complaints in an appropriate manner and refer to senior colleagues when necessary;
- Advise and support the access of physical and electronic resources as well as a broad range of associated equipment. Assist users with the use of self-check systems, catalogue terminals and photocopiers. Maintain printed and web-based guides to library services. Report access problems of the university subscribed databases;

User Account Management (30%)
- Use the library management system for a wide range of basic tasks; issue, return and renew books and other library materials to users; collect library fines; deal with reservations; maintain library user account;

Stack Management (10%)
- Do daily shelf reading to check the shelving quality of outsourcing workers. Re-shelve returned or recently consulted library materials according to the library classification rules in designate areas, plan and assist in collection weeding and relocation;

Physical Space Management (10%)
- Be responsible for library opening and closing; report the facilities and safety incidents or issues;
- Ensure that library users adhere to the regulations about behaviour in order to maintain an acceptable standard and a suitable learning environment in the library;
- Conduct library tours for visitors, new staff and new students. Provide training sessions to Vis-à-Vis group leaders;

Administration (10%)
- Collect statistics, handle financial transactions, contribute to the development of documentation and training materials related to processes and work flow;
- Identify opportunity for service improvement and participate in library projects;
- Maintain appropriate professional development, expertise and awareness. Participate in training and staff development events, as trainer or trainee as appropriate;
- Perform any other duties appropriate to the role and level.
