Rules and Regulations for Part Time Teachers
1. Appearance and Dress Code
In order to maintain a pleasant and professional working environment, all employees are required to observe the Appearance and Dress Code rules and regulations.
1) Appearance - All staff members are expected to maintain a high level of personal hygiene and report to work in a neat and clean manner.
2) Hair - Must be neat, clean and of a natural hair color.
Male staff member - a clean shave or a neatly kept mustache, a beard is acceptable. Sideburns are not allowed;
Female staff member - appropriate make up and jewelry in moderation are permitted.
3) Dress Code
Staff members who are required to wear uniforms must keep their uniforms neat, clean and in good repair at all the time.
1. Male staff member is required to wear a long/short sleeve dress shirt with a tie and long dress pants.
2. Female staff member is required to wear blouse, slacks, skirt or dress. The hem of the dress or skirt needs to be kept within 10 cm from the knees. Revealing clothing is not allowed.
3. Shoes - All staff members are required to wear dress shoes. Flip-flops, sandals and sneakers are not allowed.
4. All staff members are required to wear Meten staff ID with the staff member's photo facing outward.
2. Classroom
1) Classroom Environment
a) In order to create an ideal English environment for all students, the students are encouraged to speak English once they enter the school.
b) Smoking, drinking, fouls language, discussions of immoral/obscene and political topics are not allowed in the classroom.
c) The employee is required to keep the classrooms clean. Erase the whiteboard, push in chairs and have students remove all belongings after each class.
2) Class Location: Please use the appointed classroom. If it is necessary to change, please let Teaching Assistant or the supervisor of Teaching Department know at least 1 hour before the class begins. Please keep the classrooms clean, erase board, push in chairs and have students remove all belongings after each class.
3. Keep Records of Student Attendance
If students do not show up for the class for more than 15 minutes, the employee is required to mark "no show " on the student attendance list. Students need to re-book the class.
a) Student list: You should give the student list to the Teaching Assistant after class. If you have successive class, you should give it latest after the last class.
b) Repeat rate: 10%----20%. You should encourage the students to talk. Only if they are really poor on speaking English and fail to understand this class, then you can give them "repeat ". Please don't give "repeat " due to students' request and you can give them proper explanation and advice to render them work after class. In order to push the students to make good preparation before taking the classes, METEN make it a rule that the maximum number of classes they are allowed to repeat is 6 over one level's study.
c) No booking, no class: When students come to any PC or AC without booking, please explain the rule of "no booking, no class " and you can send the students to their SAs (or the TA). If there is indeed some special case, the student only can attend the class accompanied by SA who has gotten the permission from the teaching supervisor.
4. Class Attendance
a) Well-preparation before class is required. The part-time teacher is required to come to the office at least half an hour in advance. If there is an emergency, the part time teacher should inform the school at least 3 hours (Normally, one day) in advance.
If a part time teacher is late or finish early for class, he/she will be penalized as follows:
1-5 minutes late, penalty 20RMB; 5-15 minutes late, penalty 50RMB;
No show (15 minutes and above), no pay and also deduct 200RMB as penalty;
Finish early for class more than 5 minutes, penalty 50RMB;
b) The Employee must wait 15 minutes for late students. If they still do not show up, they should be marked as a "No Show " on the student list and rebook the lesson. Then the teacher needs to inform the TA or the SA on duty first, and then go to Lab Area and invite students for a free talk with which the Study Advisor on duty can assist.
5. Team Work
The part time teachers will be required to work with SAs, CCs and the marketing team, etc.
6. Payment
The employee will be paid by teaching hour at Meten. During the first period, the employee will be paid RMB100 for each class. The first period could be either 5 days of teaching a week for 2 weeks, or 1 day a week for 2 months. In total, at least 40 classes. Then the rate will be adjusted according to the feedback from students.
For each PC, AC, attending students should give the teacher a score ranged from 1-5 stars based on the teaching and class achievement. And at the end of each month, the system will offer the average score and it will be the reference for our FT's hourly rate next month. The rate will be: 3.50-4.00, RMB100; 4.01-4.25, RMB110; 4.26-4.45, RMB120; 4.46-4.65, RMB130; 4.66-4.85, RMB140; 4.86-5.00, RMB150.
Meanwhile, if the employee receives scores below 3.50 three times in a row, he/she may fail to meet the needs of students and our school. Thus there will be no classes for the employee to teach in the fourth month.
