BASIC FUNCTION

Responsible for researching, identifying, designing, defining and creating, new and leading edge nonmetal alloy processes and alternative materials within Global Faucets in order to drive differentiation, cost savings and growth in the market. Serve as a resident expert and advisor to industrial designers, product development engineers and management on new manufacturing processes and materials related to nonmetal alloys and forming. As part of the overall Process Engineering group, assist in implementing new nonmetals, alloys and new processes and new applications on existing processes aimed at enhancing design flexibility, sustainability, profitability, and intellectual property/competitive advantage.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Identify New Nonmetallic Materials & Processes

· Collect, study and document the information of new nonmetallic materials both international and domestic through multiple ways and a variety of channels.

· Discover, screen and archive potential new nonmetallic materials for the plumbing industry.

· Collect and study the effective researches and utilities for nonmetallic materials application area not only competitors but also partners through a variety of channels.

· Complete the early analysis and preliminary study before introducing a new nonmetallic material.

· Analyze sanitary ware product development trends, work out the development and technical direction for nonmetallic materials and processes, and enhance the core competitiveness of products in the nonmetal application field.

2. Benchmark The Competition

· Analyze the application of nonmetallic materials in the plumbing industry and with competitors

· Analyze and report the historical trends in the competitors use of nonmetals and the processes deployed

3. Identify New Processes for Existing Materials

· Maintain strong knowledgeable on ABS, POM, PVC , GRP,colophony etc and apply new processes to forming them.

· Study non metal's mechanism of corrosion and anticorrosion measures.

· Working with the Coatings Process Engineer, keep improving the surface treatment quality continually including tinting, cloud burst treatment, powder coating, paint coating, electrolytic polishing, electroplated and PVD.

· Study the nonmetallic materials ingredients, micro molecular structure to determine how to affect the physical-chemical property and manufacturability.

· Identify new technologies to improve injection processes and surface finish abilities, and enhance the core competitiveness of products comprehensively.

4. Commercialize The Manufacturing Processes For The New Materials

· Perform and implement all the performance tests, product experimental plan and validation for the new nonmetallic material or process.

· Partner with Core Process Engineering and Operations Engineering at the plants to setup pre-production tests.

· Advise on equipment investment for the capital plan.

5. Collaborate Closely With Industrial Design / New Product Development to Align Manufacturing and Materials with Product and Market trends.

· Assist with new product design process of material selection, and recommend the proper nonmetallic material and processing technology.

· Assist with technical department to research new production engineering and trial production.

6. Work Globally - Coordinate Development Testing

· Communicate with fellow associates in other regions to understand equipment availability and resources for testing

7. Support The Cost Reduction Process

· Maintain awareness of current products that are cost challenged and Identify new materials and processes to make them competitive

RELATIONSHIPS AND CONTACTS

Supervisory Relationships:

· Reports directly to the Manager - Advance Materials & Process Development, China Faucets

·

Internal Business Relationships:

· Frequent contact with Product Development Engineering, Marketing, Industrial Design, Purchasing and Manufacturing Engineering concerning strategic directions.

· Moderate contact with the Legal Department concerning intellectual property and other legal matters.

External Business Relationships:

· Frequent contact with leading research, development and educational institutions.

· Frequent contact with advanced material and process vendors to explore application opportunities in house or at chosen vendors.

· Moderate contact with bill of material suppliers and end users on explorative/experimental projects.

· Moderate contact with governments for potential advanced science and development funding and partnerships.

· Occasional contact with outside laboratories and vendors of laboratory equipment.
