Optical Test Engineer (Job location: Suzhou)

Microsoft is a world leader in the design of mobile devices. We are currently looking for an innovative person with a passion for technology to lead optical test and tester development. Primary responsibilities is developing the optical tests and metrology at optical subsystem level and device system level during manufacturing. Applicant will need the ability to see the big picture regarding significant technical project issues and to demonstrate their experience in leading core activities of highly motivated development teams. Applicants will also need to demonstrate the ability to work concurrently with Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Process Engineering, QA in testing Optical subsystems.

Responsibilities:
This position requires a high level of experience in developing and managing testing platforms for next generation test systems focusing but not limited to imaging and display systems. The goal of this position is to create test platforms during the product development cycle; then to focus on continuous improvement and calibration during mass production. The development is for testing at the component, subsystem, and system level. The applicant will also assist in the development of test system specifications, design analyses, risk analysis and contingency plans, design reviews, manufacturability assessments, verification of design durability and reliability. Applicant must have a strong working knowledge of all aspects of test system development with a concentration on optical testing and optical metrology. Applicant must have a strong working knowledge of radiometry and photometry. Strong analysis skill-set in statistics and tolerance is required. A strong working knowledge of optical tooling and fabrication methods is desired, and applicant will be responsible for creating all relevant and appropriate industry standard testing documentation to support programs. Applicant must be able to travel to design and manufacturing locations throughout the world.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Excellent interpersonal skills - cross-group and cross-culture collaboration.
- Proven capability to develop test tools to characterize optical and system level performance.
- 7+ years of industry related experience to include the system development of consumer electronics manufacturing test systems, with particular experience with optical systems, illumination design, optics design. The successful candidate must also have experience in prototyping, tooling, and high volume manufacturing assembly lines.
- Some knowledge of a broad range of optics including imaging, illumination, radiometry and photometry, physical and geometric optics, statistics, and polarization. Working knowledge of sources (lasers and LED’s), spatial light modulators, optical materials.
- A documented history of increasing responsibilities and decision-making experience.
- Strong working knowledge of typical tools used in optical design such as Zemax, FRED, or ASAP.
- Prefer someone with a strong background in development of test automation using C++/C#, Labview, Matlab, or another program which enables custom analysis and automation of complex metrology.
- Experience developing high-volume (millions of products/year) and consumer products preferred.
- Working knowledge and experience with color science and colorimetry. Working knowledge of image processing and vision algorithms.
- International travel up to 25% required

Education:
- A MS or PhD in Optical Sciences, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related degree with 7+ years relevant experience.
