Position Overview:
Based in Shanghai, reporting to the Asia Pacific Tax Director, this position requires a disciplined Tax Manager with strong experience from industry to establish a robust environment and proactively manage the tax affairs in the Asia Pacific region in all their aspects outlined in the job description. The geographical region concerned is Asia Pacific covering Australia, New Zealand, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Vietnam. Business is mainly conducted in English, however proficiency (preferably mother tongue) in at least one of the languages in the geographical region of responsibility is required. We prefer that the geographical responsibility be combined with a functional responsibility, which is flexible for example tax accounting, US tax, or project management (focused on tax).
Responsilities:
a) Assist entity controllers in the management of tax audits (mainly income tax, turnover tax and customs duty);
b) Monitor and assist with filings of Asia Pacific entities corporate tax returns;
c) Perform pre-filing tax reviews of corporate income tax returns of selected entities;
d) Liaise with and manange external counsels;
e) Directly responsible for the tax affairs of the Asia Pacific region, provide tax support to selected M&A efforts;
f) Assist with implementation of streamlined inter-company transfer pricing method;
g) Map various intro-group flows of goods and services, assist in devising efficient business models;
h) Track thin capitalization status of the different Asia Pacific entities and resulting exposure;
i) Execute dividend planning;
j) Serve as the tax departments point of contact in the Asia Pacific region with various functional teams;
k) Responsible for income tax, turnover tax, customs duty, documentation, permanent establishment and transfer pricing;
l) Assist business sector controllers, corporate tax and financial services organisations with tax accounting and US tax reporting matters;
m) Assist with benefits-related tax matters.
Percentage of Travel: 25%
Min. Yrs. Experience: 7 to 10 years
Education Standard: University
Education Type: Accounting, taxation, finance
a) 7-10 years of directly related experience;
b) University or Bachelor's Degree in accounting/finance (Masters Degree and/or Certification in Taxation highly desirable);
c) Prior experience in an international organization with corporate transformations involving the centralization of revenue, risks and functions at the level of a centralized China / Asia Pacific base company;
d) Prior experience with VAT and transfer pricing is required;
e) Experience with responsibility for China and Asia Pacific region required;
f) Strong common sense and balanced judgement, strong sense of priority;
g) Exposure to US GAAP a plus;
h) Strong organizational, critical thinking and customer service skill;
i) Ability to multi task and manage competing deadlines;
j) Daily interaction with international personnel and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management is essential;
k) Strong PC skill;
l) Strong technical, analytical and communication skill.
