Position Requirements:
? MS or PhD in an engineering field (Most typically Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following
? Testing, modeling, simulating of ESI’s electro-mechanical systems. This includes interface electronics, amplifiers, motors, mechanical inertia and compliance, etc.
? Conduct laboratory experiments or troubleshooting on existing and new control system components
? Provide tuning of control electronics and software used to control ESI’s electro mechanical systems to realize full system performance criteria (accuracy and speed tradeoffs)
? International travel required, but not frequent (<10%)

Skills, Abilities and Qualifications
? Academic and/or Internship specialization in analog and digital control system theory and practical application
? Experience in electro-mechanical system integration including tuning using lab instruments like Oscilloscopes, function generators
? Experience with high level analysis tool (Matlab preferred)
? Exposure to software development (C, C++, C#)
? Logical and analytical approach to troubleshooting. Strong hands on debugging skills
? Engineering fundamentals (Physics, Calculus, Problem Solving)
? Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Skills
? Strong skills in using mathematical modeling to investigate specific aspects of the performance of complex systems
? Typically involves multiple areas such as mechanical, electrical and optical interactions
? Understanding of vibration dynamics, DC/Brushless motor theory, power electronics
? Understanding of the software control of manufacturing systems, laser manufacturing systems preferred
? Willingness and ability to learn system level implications of specialized subsystems used in ESI products
? Digital design techniques
? DSP and or real-time embedded programming
? Experimental design and methodology
? Skills in electro-optics and lasers
