Title: Sr. Manager, Applied Technology Asia
Group: Industrial Gases, Asia
Department: Asia Technology Center
Reports to: Director Asia IG Marketing & Technology

II. Summary
The incumbent is accountable for developing long terms sustainable value through Applied Technology consistent with market demand and Asia industrial gases strategy in focused geographies. He/she is our IG innovation leader and need to effectively partner with Asia Marketing and Commercial Technology and business leaders to drive applied technology development and commercialization in Asia. Critically he/she needs to effectively leverage on global and other regions technology teams so support global projects and to set-up and lead Asia own “Center of Excellence” in technologies where the end market are primarily in Asia.
Primary areas of focus include: (1) Effectively set-up and lead Asia own “Center of Excellence” technology platforms, project pipelines and driving regional technology program execution, (2) Nurture and develop local IG applied technology talents(3) building local customer technology relationships, (4) collaborating with global and other region technology team to transfer new applications to Asia and support global platforms, and (5) overseeing laboratory EH&S performance at regional R&D laboratories.

III. Principal Accountabilities
? Lead the set-up of Asia own “Center of Excellence” technology platforms.
? Develop and nurture Asia own innovation talents.
? Provide scientific direction/leadership to local R&D projects.
? Maintain technology leadership in key areas of industrial gases applications (EPAT, Welding, Industrial Cryogenic, Food, Water and combustions).
? Evaluate innovation projects by financial criteria.
? Leverage global resources & synergies. Maintain strong working relationships with peers and between respective technology teams (in Asia, EMEA and Americas).
? Consolidate Shanghai R&D lab facility, upgrade lab equipment, and develop local technical skills to align with business needs.
? Coach R&D employee the project management, continuously improve the efficiency of R&D activities, encourage and lead regional innovation initiatives.
? Proactive team work with marketing, commercial technology, business and customers to understand the voice of customers, discover the opportunities and resolve application issues.
? Creating business value from open innovation and external partnerships.
? Ensure laboratory EH&S practices in the region meet global standards and ensure safe working environments in association with technology activities.
? This position involves 10 - 20% travel in order to lead and support programs.

IV. Qualifications
Master degree or above, PhD degree strongly preferred. Major in Engineering or Science with 10+ years of work experience, preferably in industrial R&D, including a proven track record in leadership of technology teams.
